I have been prescribed methadone since 2009 for nerve and chronic pain. I have had 7 surgeries need 2 more major surgeries, have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, degenerative disease, cervical spondylosis, and severe osteoarthritis of the joints. My doctor referred me to pain management due to personal opinion and unsure how to treat me. Have had inj's., therapy, recently my nerve burnt and received different pain medications - which none have worked or I had reactions to them. The only thing that has worked is Lyrica and Methadone. This clinic has taken me from 130 mgs to 80 mgs in a 5 month period. Ignoring my request that I still have a lot of chronic pain. I have searched and called numbers to get yet another pain management doctor and no one will keep your dosages, only weaning to get you completely off methadone. Does anyone know a doctor in Wisconsin that uses Methadone to treat chronic pain? I AM NOT AN ADDICT. I SEVERELY NEED MY MEDICATIONS!!! Someone please help! And by the way I am not an old lady, I am not even 50 yet, but do to years of steroid use for severe COPD I am in the shape I am in...

Malakki223 I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with your pain management. I realize you posted this a few months ago so maybe you have gotten this resolved. I wish I could tell you of a doctor that would help you but sadly now a days there is not one doctor that will prescribe that much methadone for chronic pain. Unless your terminal or in late stage cancer. I was on 60 mg daily for ten years for chronic pain and the DEA closed down my clinic. This doctor was a chronic pain and addictionologist. He had dedicated 50 yrs to his profession. He continued practicing well longer than he had to. He was one of the last doctors that continued to help his patients in chronic pain. Of course like I said he was well past retirement age. In his eighties. No other doctor will risk their license like he did. It was horrible, the DEA came in and shut him down in one day. All his patients were left with no help. It is sad but true that the government basically mandates how doctors treat chronic pain patients. Sorry to be so long winded but I have gone thru exactly what you are now. So if your clinic is still willing to continue treating you with methadone STAY WITH THAT DOCTOR!!! TREAT HIM LIKE A GOD!!! Do yourself a favor and quit asking for more because that is for sure when they will want to decrease your dose. The only other choice you have is to go to a methadone clinic. If you go to a methadone clinic you can be on a high dose. You cannot tell them its for pain though. You have to tell them you are an addict. Which I hate to say but if you have been on methadone that long, you are addicted to it. I'm not saying you are a junkie but you are addicted to narcotics. Believe me so many chronic pain people have had to go to methadone clinics. Tons actually. I would have myself but the closest one to me is almost 4 hours away. I literally went through hell and still am. Wish it was better news for you but don't waste your time looking for another doctor. You wont find one. Believe me I tried and wasted so much time and just got more and more sick, stressed and depressed. Good Luck to you!
