i'm looking 4 a dr who can & will prescribe methadone i've been on 9yrs for chronic pain but cannot find new dr. is buying on the internet from out of country all i can do? i live in greenwood in

There are 2 reasons you may be having a problem finding a new doctor.

The first is if you're calling new doctors and asking them if they'll prescribe it, they will view that as drug seeking behavior and, in most cases, they won't even let you get in the door.

And the next also has to do with asking them about, if they possibly think it's for addiction treatment, they have to say no, since private doctors aren't allowed to prescribe it for that.

In other worse, regardless of which one is applicable, you need to just set up an appointment with a new doctor, without asking if they'll prescribe any specific medication. Make sure they get a full copy of your most recent medical records, then discuss your treatment options at the appointment. They will be more prone to prescribe accordingly if they can see what has and hasn't worked for you as documented by a fellow physician.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Julie, I may be able to help you out with the methadone contact me at {edited for privacy} I was on methadone for over 5 years was just switched over because a lot of pain mgrs don't wish to prescribe this medication. I don't like leaving info to much on open forums.

Hi I just read your post to Julie, I'm in a similar situation, I have been going to the same Dr. For over 5 years for chronic back pain and I'm prescribed methadone, now he stopped writing it, so hard to find a Dr to get it. I think it has a bad rep I feel perfectly fine taking it, its better then all those pain meds. But I'm so afraid of detox, can u help!

Is it really hard to detox from methadone 40mg if I am also taking Tramadol and Klonipin? I was on methadone 80mg and had no desire to go on additional drugs. If I use narcotics to detox off methadone (I know that sounds backwards, but why go in everyday for a 40mg dose that doesn’t help. I probably should come off slowly but I’m so pissed that some dr who doesn’t even know me made this change while I was in the hospital. I used to be on 80mg for years and have had no desire to use opiates. That has drastically changed!
