VA had me on methadone for over 15 years.
..volunteered for methadone cessation with the VA because I kept going into DTs because USPS/UPS kept delaying my meds. Sometimes it would take a week to get my RX.
....then, when I dropped below 25mg, the cramps diarrhea and associated pain was causing me to be suicidal.
I can't get a doctor's referral because VA doctors don't work with "outside" doctors. Of course, they won't allow me to withdraw from the program now.
My God, I wish I were dead. Is there any hope for me?
The CDC(? ) are on a witch-hunt now for any doctors giving narcotics to patients who are not considered terminal now. They just closed a very good doctor's practice down because he prescribed narcotics to a few of his patient's over the past few years to help these old people with their awful pain. This doctor had not taken on any new patients in over3 years.
God, this mess is killing me. I am regretting ever volunteering for this awful state I'm in now. The pain, cramping, etc is more now from the methadone withdrawal than from my screwed-up back.
Anyone?
Joe

Joe,
I'm sorry but your in a catch 22 situation. If your back pain could be managed with interventional pain technique's something like rapid opiate detoxification procedure under anesthesia may be an option. The only other option would be a MMT clinic but being unfamiliar with your history it's difficult to say if you qualify but surviving in perpetual withdrawals is certainly not a viable option.I wish I could be more optimistic

I suppose its DEA, not CDC doing all of this. I'm not familiar with all of the abbreviations. My wife's brother and sister have been cut off also. Her brother had over 5 back surgeries, and her sister's knees are both "blown".
I read this is all a spill-over from ObamaCare, but whatever it is, it's inhumane to see all of these people suffer like they are. My lift is pretty much spent anyhow at 61, but the younger people (who are in serious pain), have kids to raise, homes to build and grandkids to raise.
....matter of fact, my grands will be what I will miss the most.
...makes me wish I never would've let the VA start me on this trip years ago, but sometimes we, as fools, are naive enough to assume that doctors always have our best interests at heart.
...go figure.
