Meds Not Helping High Tolerance

Updated

How can I get my Dr. to understand I've built a tolerance to pain meds. Same dosage for 2 yrs . 80mgs of oxycontin and 30mgs of opana daily . I have severe osteoarthritis bursitis and fibromyaliga. Dr. says that's the maxi he can give me. Should I look for another pain Dr.??

Gigi4121! How are you?

The new Oxycontin tablets were reformulated to help make them more abuse proof and the old ones are no longer being manufactured, so it is fairly safe to say that if you've gotten them filled within the past year, you have the new tablets.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

As to how to let your doctor know, you just need to tell them that your current dosages aren't handling your pain, anymore. It is completely normal for your body to eventually get used to anything that you take for a long period of time and for it to no longer work as well for you. Your doctor is aware of this and should expect it.

Does anyone else have any advice or ideas to add?

this seems to be an incorrect way of treating your pain. You are taking the same half life of the tablets yet no real break-thru pain med. Feel lucky he writes for this much medicine. If you take yourself down for a month you will notice more fun in life. Then if you need to go back to this dosage you haven't lost anything.

No you should try & ween off some. I'm not saying you are not in pain. But that is too much to begin with. I know people in worse shape than you that only takes lortab 7.5/325.. I pray nothing severe ever happens to you. Taking those kind of medicines for that long is not good for you. I pray you get relief. But try to taper down. Well wishes & blessings sent your way.
Praying you get relief. God bless.

I've been on 50mgs oxycodone for 10 yrs. My doctor wont do anything for me. I have CRPS/RSD plus sciatic nerves are pinches and 5 herniated and bulging disc. I'm 100% disabled by government and state of Ohio. I need a Dr who will actually try to comfort me. I'm a mom of 2 active teenagers, I use a walker or wheelchair depending on the distance. I'm 35 yrs old and I can't take the pain anymore. If you know of any Drs in NE OHIO I'd be appreciated. God bless
