Medroxyprogest 10mg

Updated

was on medroxyprogest 10mg for 21 days due to bleeding from the uterus. I finished all the pills but still spotting slightly. Is this normal? I am 67 years old. No doctor over the years have ever suggested this type of meds. Been fine in health until these last few years. Have been under a lot of stress so don't know if this has anything to do with the bleeding. Seen a OBGYN who prescribed these meds but since then have been in the process of moving to another town. Once we are in our new home in a week I plan to go to the hospital to get a reference to a new GYB. Have any suggestion on what I should do for the spotting.

Both of you need to consult your respective doctors.

Even after menopause, you can still accumulate estrogen, which can cause the lining of the uterus to build up and, if it starts to break down, then you may bleed or spot. Usually, most doctors will prescribe this medication to help break it down, so the bleeding eventually stops, though it may take some time.

However, if you are still bleeding after taking your course of it, you may need further medical evaluation.

The FDA lists other side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I am a 60 year old woman in menopause for about 9 years now. I never had irregular periods and could actually count on them exactly like clock work. On occasion as a teen and young adult I might have bad cramps and slightly heavier bleeding but nothing severe enough to run to the doctor about. I had three pregnancies and two live births. One of the three pregnancies ended in spontaneous miscarriage. I had no difficulty with peri menopause and very, very few menopausal symptoms to complain about. About eight years into menopause I spotted ONE time and I knew this was not normal. I went to my family doctor and he then freaked out and started ordering this and that test etc. etc. Pap came back neg. He then referred me to a OBGYN and she did a transvaginal ultrasound and found a polyp, we went further and had it removed from the lining of the uterus as well as a few other newly started polyps that did not show on the original ultra sound. A D & C was then performed and biopsy done on all removed. What came back was a diagnosis of Endometrial Hyperplasia. The doctor has prescribed MEDROXYPR AC 10 mg tabs and one is to be taken each and every day with no cycling or stopping of the pills, for the course of 6 months. At the end of six months, we will do another biopsy. If all is well, the doctor talks like nothing further needs to be done. If Endometrial Hyperplasia comes back from pathology yet again, then we will talk about other options. However, I am very frightened of the side effects listed in the medication insert since I am an older woman of 60 years. Yes my GYN is aware of all my medications and what I take them for. Still I am frightened. Aren't there safer medications with less potential for risks? Is that correct to take it EVERY day? I think I am holding off on starting this medication till I get some answers, do some more research and look into some other options that may be just as effective. My surgery was just 6 days ago for the removal of the polyps and D&C. I have the MEDROXYPR AC sitting in front me at my desk and it's patiently waiting for me to pop that first scary pill. Help... I'm really confused about weather to start them or not. ANY words of wisdom or advice is appreciated here. Thanks in advance for your take on my situation.
