Mallinckrodt 30mg Oxycodone

Updated

I just moved here to the suburbs of Atlanta (Woodstock) from NJ and I am having a very difficult time finding a pain management doctor. I currently take 90mg of oxycodone and 60mg of methadone for chronic neck and back pain. Two of the doctors that were on my BC/BS provider website told me that they could not treat me and made me feel like I was on a high amount of pain medications. In NJ my pain management doctor had been prescribed that amount for years and I never got the impression it was a big deal. But here in Georgia it looks like I am going to have some problems. Can anyone out there recommend a good pain management doctor in the Woodstock Georgia area that is not afraid to treat a person that has legitimate pain management issues. I am starting to get the impression that I might have to move back to NJ to get decent treatment. I would appreciate anyone who can recommend a good pain management doctor. I’m am retired and love this state, but are the doctors really that anal down here.

I don't know if I would consider the doctors anal for not wanting to prescribe that much pain medication. What you are taking would cause acute respiratory failure in most people. You must have quite the tolerance.

In the current state of opioid hysteria it is probably going to be very difficult to find any doctor willing to continue to prescribe such a high dose of oxycodone with methadone. I'm not saying that you don't need it, or trying to be judgmental, but that's a lot!

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Best of luck to you in finding a Doctor who can help you manage your pain and discomfort.

When you have been on pain medications for close to ten years I’m sure you do build up a tolerance. The numbers that I posted were for a 24 hour period, and from some of the other threads that I have read that kinds of puts me in the mid-range. I have read posts where people are taking 30 mg oxys several times a day with a fentanyl patch on top of that. But when you have tried everything from surgery, epidurals, acupuncture, spinal decompression, etc and nothing works you are looking to just get through the day with minimal pain and have a quality of life, there aren’t any other options. It’s funny because the pain management doctors colleagues in New Jersey didn’t seem to think it was a high level of opioids and prescribed them without issue. In fact, I specifically remember one pain management doctor tell me “don’t try a be a hero and deal with the pain when we have medications that are specifically made and designed to help people like you with chronic pain". I personally don’t see the difference between being dependent on opioids, blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes, and other medications. If they keep you healthy or give you an improved quality of life, then why not. I would rather take the opioids and be able to play with my daughter, run with my dog, and exercise, than being stuck in bed not being able to do anything whatsoever. The opioids give me the opportunity to exercise and keep matters from getting worse.

Re: Mason (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

You actually got me interested in what is considered low, medium, and high amounts of oxycodone per day and they had the numbers at anything less than 100mg per day as on the low side. Lots of people on the thread were taking dosages of 140-240 per day and some were even at 500-600mg per day. So myself at 90mg per day is really not that high, at least from the information that I read. Are you speaking from personal experience or just assuming what is considered high?

Actually after doing even more research I am discovering that 90mg of oxycodone per day is not that high at all. You really do a deservice to people like me by scaring them with inaccurate information. If you can’t help with the question I posed, you are better off not responding to the post at all. I’m intelligent enough not to take your word and research your assumption. Others my not and you only end up scaring them instead of helping.

Re: John (# 4) Expand Referenced Message

The oxycodone itself isn't the issue but combined with methadone, in most people, it would cause a serious respiratory risk. I apologize as it was not my intent to scare you. Again I was speaking in general of the combination of the oxycodone and methadone; not the oxycodone alone.

A good friend of mine, who had little tolerance to opioids, died in his sleep from taking 2 10/325 percocets and 30mg of methadone. You didn't initially indicate your tolerance/history and I was trying to err on the side of safety.

Re: Mason (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

10mg of methadone is equal to 15mg of oxycodone, but the difference is the methadone is a longer acting pain med while the oxycodone is usually used for breakthrough pain and immediate release and is faster and shorter acting. So the combination of the two is really no different than using a higher dosage of oxycodone. Just because you are combining the two doesn’t make it any more dangerous. As long as you follow the doctor's instructions and don’t take a large amount, like a lot of abusers do, then you are not in any danger. I have never heard of anyone dying who had followed the instructions on the drug label. It’s the people who take higher than recommended dosages who are killing themselves.
