Lyrica Lawsuit

Updated

Does anyone know if there is an ongoing lawsuit against the company who puts out Lyrica? I am a mess from it. Do we have a leg to stand on when it comes to the side effects they found out from people like us? I am a long termer. I have been taking 900 mg since 2005. Is there anyone representing us? Thank you

Hi Vicky. Right now it looks like the primary lawsuits concerning Lyrica are centered around suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Very sorry to hear about your condition from this drug. I've heard of many individuals experiencing some dramatic side effects from long term use. That's just a shame. I definitely would not give up yet, because what you are saying is now coming to the forefront, so it's just the beginning. What has your doctor's response been to your deteriorating condition over time? Have they even tried to get you on a different solution?

I am looking for an Attorney in Michigan that will take on the company that put out Lyrica. I stopped taking it way over a year ago and I still have side effects.. I attempted suicide without hesitation and that is not something I would've done. My Shrink says that he prevented another patient from attempting suicide after being put on Lyrica. Are they actually any lawsuits going on now or what. If anyone has info please let me know. Thanks. I wouldn't recommend anyone take that med after what I have gone through and what I have read from others.

I took an overdose of sleeping meds after being on Lyrica for just over a month. My lfe went to hell, pardon the pun. Now I am on naltrexone for the fibromyalgia pain and I feel so much better. Maybe it will help you.

Thanks Janna, I haven't heard of that one. I am curious, have you had any lasting effects from Lyrica, like stuttering, uncontrolled jerking or anything like that? I took it off an on for about a year before I realized it was the Lyrica that was destroying me. Glad you are feeling better.

I totally understand the embarrassing part. While I was taking Lyrica, My Mom had broken her back and had come out to Live with me so I could take care of her. Between that and all her other health problems I was taking her to the Dr's several times a week. It would be so emb
barrassing to be in talking to the Dr trying to explain something and I couldn't get the words out properly. It made me feel like an idiot. Also I don't know about anyone else, but when I am writing or typing. I am always getting my letters mixed up, contantly having to erase, scratch out or go back and retype. The worst was the suicide attempt. I took over 300 pills without hestitation and that wasn't something I would've done and only by the grace of God am I still here. I don't understand why they can't do something about this drug to either correct the problem or take it off the market. Has anyone found an attorney to represent them in a lawsuit against this medication?

I've been on Lyrica for just over a year. I consider it to be deadly poison. After a very long period of tapering to an incredibly low dose, I am still experiencing the scariest side effects. Within 48 hours of quitting, I experienced what appeared to be a seizure, although I've never had a seizure disorder. Immediately went back on the tiny dose I've been taking, and then started experiencing excruciating headaches during times of stress and during sex. If anyone has any advice, I'd very much appreciate hearing it. I'm afraid this drug is damaging my brain, and I feel like I'm in a pharmaceutical prison, scared to death of having rebound seizures when I stop taking it, but fearing the headaches even more. I feel like this drug is rewiring my brain!

that is a great way to describe it Miranda. I fear that it has irreversable damage when it comes to your brain. I have been off of it for over 2 years now and as you can see from my previous posts, I still have problems. I didn't have seisures per say, but I remember sitting in my Dr's office and she thought I had had a stroke, so she ordered a whole battery of tests. I think you need to see a Dr. because you need to find a way to totally stop taking Lyrica before it causes any more damage. Good luck sweetie, keep us posted.

Took Lyrica during 9 months of 2009. It did cease the tremendous pain that had literally paralyzed my neck, upper back & right arm so bad I couldn't life my arm to even type. I lost my great job to this drug. I couldn't see the forest for the trees effect. My eye sight went bad, dizzy, vertigo, shakiness, agitated, weight gain, major hair loss, confusion, crazy thoughts, decreased intelligence, etc. My co-worker used it against me causing me to get Fired after 9 yrs. on the job. Was going to sue my company...because she thought I had lost my mind. Anyway, went off the drug and feel there is some permanant damage in my eyesight after one year of being off of it. I have read so much damage this drug has done to people. What does it take?? I feel like I will never get past the year I was on this drug, I lost so much of my life in 2008 and 2 years later am still suffering from the use of this drug. I don't take anything now except effexor and life with occassional pain in my right arm and fingers. Looking back now I am sure I would have tried suicide if I had been on this drug any longer than I was. I even told my doctor about all the side effects and she just increased the doseage! Finally, my husband (after I lost my job) took me to her and demanded she do something because he felt like he was loosing me. She said well, just stop taking it and I did. Took me about 3 months just to get my thoughts together to find another job. Now, after almost 2 years, I definitely have side effects that have not gone away. My eyesight is terrible and I used to have 20/20. I have contacted an attorney here in Oklahoma City who basically blew me off because he said after the Phen Phen episodes there would be no way to sue a drug company or the FDA that they are all protected by the fine print on the warnings of the side effects. By the way, my hair did grow back and I am thankful for that!

I am very happy to have come across this website. My life was completely destroyed after taking Lyrica, by Pfizer for only seven months. Has anybody contacted the attorney(s) that just won the case against Pfizer for another medication? Pfizer was ordered to pay a HUGE amount. I think it was one of the highest payments ever by a drug manufacturer. I've been looking for the case, but don't know how to find the attorney, or firm that won against Pfizer. On a side note, did anybody in this forum have dental problems while using Lyrica?

I took Lyrica for one week and got so sick I could not get out of bed. That's a dangerous thing when you are a single mom of an autistic child. I HATE LYRICA.

Since my injury in 05 I have been on Lyrica and I did end up losing all of my teeth and had to have 1000S of dental work done. I didnt even consider Lyrica being a culprit but how do any of us know what will happen to us unless we discuss like this. I am still taking Lyrica because I have severe nerve damange that withouy it I would haave no use, or unbearable pain to the left side of my body. I just worry reading all you guys comments what will we bre left with. Will it inventionally take our minds compleyely. I too as stated that the confusion and the way I have no thought process to even put a sentence together. I noticed that right away, and just find myself not going places because of the embarrassment. Its there in your mind, your thoughts but just wont come out and when they do, its a jumbled mess making little sense. So i gained 90 pds, memory loss, confusion, teeth loss,

only you know what side effects can be tolerated. What out weights the pain. I took Lyrica for pain. Fear of that pain hindered me from seeking out any other options. When you wake up not hurting it can be the best feeling ever. you have to be your own advocate. review the site i have attached... this woman is now losing her vision. For me the side effects far out weighed the pain relifef.

Connie - did you find a Michigan attorney for use of Lyrica - my life is a nightmare since last Spring - can't live without it because of nerve damage pain but can't live it and get the pain back. Has anyone else hired an attorney even outside Michigan? Anyone....please help me

Vickie: I can help you show a direct correlation between using LYRICA and losing your teeth. I was misdiagnosed and placed on Lyrica for only seven months. Prior to starting Lyrica, I have dental records proving my teeth were in perfect condition. After only seven months, I had to have nine root canals, one implant and total restoration. The only thing I did prior to my teeth problem was start Lyrica.

My mother and sister have been on Lyrica for a min now. Between the two of them, they could account for 70% of every side effect I've read. Have you found an attorney? The going to jail, lost teeth, your whole story is my mom's.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. Lyrica changed my life forever and NOT for the good. I was in a coma; I lost my memory; I couldn't focus, cook, read, do anything! It took about 2-1/2 years for the "fog" to clear and I'm still not "me." I went to one attorney here in Florida who told me I missed the statute of limitations. How the heck was I supposed to file suit when I wasn't even capable of reading the newspaper? The manufacturer of Lyrica SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE! I'm not interested in a million dollars (well, that would be nice) but they should pay something for what I went through and am still going through. And no one will help me.

I have contacted over a dozen attorneys who specialize in this sort of litigation. Some of these have web pages asking you to contact them if you have experienced damages due to Lyrica. But every attorney has told me "I'm sorry, we do not take Lyrica cases."

Since none of them have explained why, I can only guess. One guess is that there is some recent case in which the makers of Lyrica prevailed. (making it much less likely that similar cases can be won). Another is that Lyrica has gone around hiring these law firms to do various assignments for big money. Once a law firm takes on a client like that, the firm cannot take on any cases which would cause a conflict of interest. This is just a guess though...nothing more.

I'm not sure there is one at this point. Apparently, there doesn't seem to be enough motivation for the attorneys. I could be wrong and need to dig deeper. This drug is not meant to be taken long term but it is.

Are there any class action lawsuits for Lyrica that people can get involved with? I ended up in a coma after taking Lyrica for a little over 30 days. Six weeks of rehab learning everything all over again. It changed my life (not for the better) and I will never, ever be the same again.

Re: Sherree (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Sheree. Lawyers mat be resolved to think that Big Pharma is protected by the fine print on the possible side effects of their drugs. Not totally true. If there is some evidence that Pfizer knew in advance that there is possible irreversible side effects of both Nuerontin and Lyrica and didn't disclose it. Question that I have is, whether the memory, cognitive function is Improved or reversed after stopping these drugs. Drug company's can only provide limited side effects based on patients reports on clinical trials from the drug. So, are patients in large numbers experiencing symptoms that are not reported by Pfizer per say?
Why are Doctors themselves not responding to complications from patients who are taking Lyrica and Neurontin? I'm not sure if even the doctors who are trained in pain management are disclosing to patients, the risks that they know are involved. Most all drugs have the possibility for side effects, yet millions take them anyway despite that. It is customary for drug companies to say " The Benefits Out Way the Risks"' Really? When you can no longer make decisions on how to manage your finances, basic decision making and the ongoing depression, then have to take other drugs to manage the depression, it's time for the Government to force the hands of Pfizer and Doctors to come forward and disclose the real dangers of Lyrica and Neurontin. I read one the these threads last night on the action that the " Gabapentin", and "Pregabbapentin" have on on the brain. So they are similar drugs but, act just a little differently on the brain. In the post, one person mentioned that the spinal cord is not part of the brain, therefore how can these drugs effectively produce a positive outcome for pain management? I don't remember which post it was exactly. The bottom line is that until last night, I didn't know the very low percentage of patients that these treatments are successful with. That alone speaks volumes as ton why Lyrica is being pushed down peoples throats for symptoms other than what the drug was initially prescribed for.
There is your answer as what should motivate the Government and high power attorneys to get on board. Wiped out now, since my most recent dose this afternoon of just 150 mg. My day is done. This is not my life and I want it back. I plan on asking my doctor to take me off of Lyrica. I will do my best to see how I feel before and after, then try to document the difference in the side effects. I shouldn't have to be doing this on my own. The Government should be looking into whether Pfizer has done any of these studies of Memory loss, cognitive function and concentration before and after use of the drug for both Neurontin and Lyrica. Also, I'm interested to know the different studies on each drug that was performed with relationship to one another for both Lyrica and Neurontin. Was there any studies done on patients on long term use and symptom changes after the patient was completely taken off of the drug, with long term post use?

This was very helpful. I am sitting here writing to you at 4:10 a.m. EST. I went to bed, trying to manage my pinched sciatic nerve with an ice pack. In addition to my bedtime meds of a recently increased dose of Lyrica. I woke up choking on my own saliva. I felt so delirious that was struggling to wake up and stop myself from the symptoms. I have always mentioned my concerns to my doctors about Lyrica. I have repeatedly told them of deep concerns, that I am experiencing some long and short-term memory loss. It is very difficult to focus and concentration is strained. After experiencing daily increasing nerve pain over the last 5-6 weeks, my pain management Dr decided to up my Lyrica from 75 mg Three X's a day ( which I mainly only took 2X's a day, for fear doctor drug). In waking up with jerking, involuntary movements, difficulty breathing, which is why I was switched to Lyrica from Neurontin.

The higher doses of Lyrica has the same outcome. I am still feeling a great deal of pain and have been unable to drive, barely get my right leg up to get into bed. Now after taking the higher doses of Lyrica, I am experiencing some entirely different type of pain, radiating all the way down to my ankle with some tingling. Now I have a pulling, crushing type of pain. Weird dreams, looking time and space have been more and more frequent. I make movements in my semi-slumber state. I'm waking myself up trying to talk in my sleep, although I'm struggling to speak the words coherently. I have been diagnosed with failed back surgery since 2005. Also, I am diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Degenerative Joint and Disc disease. I have been in pain management ever since with every epidural block, trigger point injections and now Radio Frequency Ablation, which I believe is the cause for the pain that has kept me mostly bedridden and unable to drive for the last almost 2 weeks. Now I'm scheduled for a second implant trial for a Neurostimulator. The last one was permanently implanted, then revised, then removed. My doctor said he couldn't find the lead anchor next to my spine, which was the main source of my pain. I believe that was in 2011-12.

Now years later, guess what? New company, new system that doesn't cause buzzing or tingling and my doctor wants me to have the trial done this month. I've been told little or nothing by the doctor herself. They selector home with a CD and booklet then a Rep from the company calls to interview your pain concerns. So, I am taking prescribed pain meds in addition to Lyrica. I would be happy to be off all of the drugs I'm taking. Neurostimulator? Not so sure about that either. Very skeptical in thinking doctors are motivated by sales and pushing from the makers of these implants. I could choose SI Joint Fusion. Oh but, No I won't!! So, what's the alternative? I also use over the counter Acetaminophen and Naproxen Sodium alternatively with my pain medication which is Tramadol. Too much confusion and memory loss. I can be riding somewhere and completely lose my bearings. Where am I? How did I get here? I suffer from disorientation, confusion, inability to focus and from lower levels of comprehension on such simple things. I feel like an *****, which I am not. Waking up from your body jerking and jumping so hard it scares the life out of you is certainly not an alternative solution and either uncontrollable movements, which is what woke me up at these early morning hours. As I'm looking at the screen on my phone writing to you all, it is slanted towards the right and my vision is very blurred. If I have to drive or go to run errands, I have to withhold the Lyrica to ensure safe driving. Wish you all the best. Anyone who has not suffered from Chronic debilitating, long-standing pain finds it difficult to understand. It is great to converse with others who do know the suffering.
