Lot Number With Different Expiration Dates

Updated

Hi all. I have been using bensedin diazepam at 40mg a day for months and have not needed to increase dose so that's good, on the other hand I seem to often get the same lot number 05697 exp 06/2020 last 4 strips all same batch apart from 1 strip. I've also had lot 05697 with exp 2021. I didn't think you could have the same lot number with different expiration dates? Or can you?

Yes, you can. There are more details available from the FDA on expiration dates.

Generally, the expiration date on the package you receive from the pharmacy is based on when they were dispensed to you and how long they are expected to maintain full efficacy under average home storage conditions. In most countries, that's about a year from when you received the product.

However, when still in the original sealed package at the pharmacy, under optimal storage conditions, some medications have a shelf life of 3 to 4 years. Pharmacies use climate controlled storage facilities that keep the medications away from the conditions that usually cause degradation, such as heat, light, and moisture.

Thus, once removed from optimal conditions, the expiration date usually changes, even though the medication may be from the same batch.

Is there anything else I can help with?
