Loose Methadone Weight

How do I loose the weight I have gained on methadone? I am 5'2" and almost 180lbs. I have NEVER weighed this much not even during my only time being pregnant. So I take 150mg per day of methadone and I am desperate to get this weight off or even jump start my metabolism back up. Before the methadone my top weight was NEVER over 115 lbs. Please help me!!!

Hello, Susie! How are you? I'm very sorry about the weight issue.

However, most people don't lose any, unless their dose is lowered, or they completely come off of Methadone.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Do you watch your diet and get lots of exercise?

I went through the same thing but I lost the weight after seeing an endocrinologist and being put on testosterone replacement (but I'm a man). You are experiencing Opiate Induced Endocrinopathy - get your hormones evaluated and go see an endocrinologist. Methadone messes up your hormone production and this is what causes weight gain. Do research on "Opiate Induced Endocrinopathy".
