Yes... I'm having this same exact problem, my pharmacy CVS keeps ordering it but it never comes in. They think the companies who make it are having back order issues because of the recent change from CIII's to CII's... I have tried everywhere within driving distance and no one has this... what the heck is going on???

Unfortunately, we are having the same issues here in Central Florida. My wife was prescribed hydrocodone for mixed-connective tissue disease and is also recovering from surgery. On October 10, I took her prescription into the CVS my family always uses and was immediately told that they could not fill it due to the meds being on back-order. I asked if they had any idea when they would be back in stock and was told no. I went home and called around to different pharmacies and was told the same thing. I have called our CVS every day since to check on the status but each time am told they still don't have it. This morning I went into the store to talk to the pharmacy manager. I told him the situation and asked if they had anything in stock that was similar in pain relief so we could get a different prescription for the time being. Still the answer was no. Supposedly they only have Tramadol in stock, which my wife tried months ago and it didn't even take the edge off. So I asked if he had any idea when the hydrocodone would be back in stock and he told me the last he heard would be the middle of November but it could be longer. That's a minimum of 4-6 weeks with no medication. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Of course the hydrocodone wasn't a cure all, but with it she could do simple things around the house and at least be self sufficient. Now she is in severe pain and I am staying in from work to care for her because she can't even get up without assistance now. I really hope this gets resolved sooner than later.

One thing I'd like to note is that if you called pharmacies asking about a controlled substance, you can't be sure that you got an accurate answer. They have no way of knowing if the person on the phone is a legitimate patient with a need or a potential thief. To get an honest answer, you actually have to physically go to the pharmacies, with the prescription in hand.

The next issue is that we're into the time of year when there is almost always a shortage due to mandatory manufacturing limits. Once a manufacturer hits their limit, they can't make anymore product, until the new year. I can't remember a year where demand hasn't exceeded supply and resulted in a shortage for the last few months.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

The best suggestion I can make is to speak to your pharmacist and your doctor to see what they do have in stock that you might be able to take, in the meantime.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I have the same issue in South Florida. Norco 10/325. I won't bore you with my medical issues, and I won't vent or blame anyone, however driving around to get an answer is a chore.

Here is how you can guess if a pharmacy might have them (btw I have been out for a few days). Ask to speak to the pharmacist. Ask if they are having issues ordering a class of medication that was upscheduled this month. If they ask for what drug name tell them if you say it they won't tell you. If they say they are still having issues or they keep getting orders back or whatever...they probably don't have them.

As soon as you say a drug name they will say they can't tell you. Be nice, use finesse and save driving and aggravation. And stay the heck away from walgreens and their draconian 'good faith' policy.

Same problem I've been to and called a lot of pharmacies in Volusia County and can't find even on that can fill my script. I've called my Dr. to see if he can write a script for something as strong as the hydrocodone. I can't live with this pain for long.

Linda, it's not can a dr write a rx for a med, it is will they. They are started lying ans saying that they can't write certain rxs due to new laws. There are no new laws that say that a dr has to be a pain managment dr to write pain meds. If a dr tells you there are as them for a reference number for the state and/or federal law. You can also find out by doing a search.

Manufacturers are given a certain amount of active ingredients needed to make Schedule II meds each yr. If/when they run out at the end of the yr, they have to wait until the new yr to make any more. Then it has to be processed and transported, distributed, etc.

I've been taking hydrocodone for 25yrs, and this is the first time I have seen a shortage. I have been waiting since Feb 2, to fill my script.
