Lisinopril Anxiety And Shortness Of Breath

Updated

Has anybody experienced anxiety, shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, and abdominal pain after starting Lisinopril? Note that I have never had problems with anxiety and do not believe it is a panic attack. Did not have this issue until on this medication.

Lisinopril is commonly used to help lower blood pressure.

These could be the signs of a serious adverse reaction, you need to contact your doctor immediately.

I have constant anxiety. Feeling of doom. Cough. Body tingles. Trouble sleeping because of the anxiety.

The Lisinopril can cause this, it is rare, but highly possible. My doctor recently had me try it and I experienced severe problems, as well.

Have you spoken to your doctor about it? There are other medications you can try.

After starting Lisinopril my husbands personality changed he was never angery before and now he is always angery and very critical of everything . I have been married to him for 35 years and now we are divorcing I feel that the medicine has changed this and on aug 4,2010 he woke up from sleeping and believe me he was not himself and he was going to kill me i called 911 and instead of taking him to the hospital for what i thought was a brain seizure or something they put him in jail this has ruined my life and i feel the medicine is what caused this.Has anyone else ever heard anything like this ?

I have never heard of a drastic personality change like that. It may be one of those very rare side effects or something. He should have went to the hospital for the issue instead of jail. Sounds like he needed to change blood pressure medication. I am sorry that this horrible thing has happened to you. Just take it one day at a time.

I replied to the shortness of breath symptom to another posting. A portable oximeter is available even at drug store chains. I can't recall the price, but it is handy to check pulse, and oxygen in blood and mine even displays the changing bar for heartbeat that may not tell you much, but if you start fibrilating, perish the thought, you would see it. I love the medical establishment when they come up with words like Idiopathic to mean they don't have a clue. Usually the clue they don't have doesn't stop them from offering a solution of the same value.

Has anyone noticed a change physically- side effects since Lupin changed their Lisinopril 20 mg to a much smaller pill. Like anxiety, tremor and increased chest pain

Called Lupin this week. They filed a report and said I would hear from someone. Am still waiting. Told them many people are experiencing awful side effects since they went to smaller pill

I have been on Lisinopril 20mg for a long while. Got my refill yesterday. Old & new pills are imprinted with LUPIN 20 on them and are pink, BUT one is half the thickness and smaller diameter. After calling pharmacy and speaking to a pharmacy tech, I was told they had just CHANGED the fillers. My employer WAS on a 5mg Lupin Lisinopril and it was the same small size as this new 20mg. I read a few of the postings here and at first saw in one that the person was experiencing anxiety and higher blood pressure. I know that other factors in this person's life MAY cause this, but I still called Lupin Pharmaceuticals and expressed the info above. The Customer Service Representative STRESSED that they had NOT CHANGED the inert ingredients (fillers), only REDUCED the amount of fillers. Then I returned to this sight to post, started reading MORE postings and found that even MORE people were experiencing problems with higher blood pressure, increased anxiety, and even "feeling like they were in a fog," ...so now I'm feeling MORE concerned. Will definitely be monitoring myself and be back in touch with this forum!! I have experienced some feelings of fogginess for a while now, but will continue to monitor and discuss with my physician on my next visit.

I've been on Lisinopril for two years or so. Aside from an annoying cough I haven't noticed any major side effects. However, this past week along with the cough I have been out of breath. Anyone else experienced this? Can an adverse reaction happen later with a medication that didn't happen initially?

Yes, until I switched from the manufacturer Lupin to Watson....I requested the change at my pharmacy because of all the side effects from the new lisinopril from lupin. No more side effects..Watson is made in Switzerland....Lupin is from India

I have been on Lisinopril about 1 year and the anxiety and shortness of breath has been creeping up on me the longer I take it. After reading this post I am going to have a dscussion with my Dr. about a change.

I had exactly what you described and it was getting worse as time went on. Not realizing it was from the Lisiopril my Cardiologist was adding additional medications and telling me I will most likely need to have a pacemaker installed. After taking it for a year and experiencing the racing heart at times, anxiety, and shortness of breath I decided to stop taking it altogether. Since that time the shortness of breath has subsided along with most of the anxiety. I still have to deal with my pulse rate jumping up on me after I have a workout but even that seems to be improving.

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I naturally suffer with anxiety if I am in a stressful situation more then an average person might. When the doctor first put me on 10 mg of Lisinopril it served its purpose of lowering my blood pressure. After a few months I began to feel the anxiety creep in and the cardiologist put me on another medication that made me feel tired and worn out so I went back to the Lisinopril. My blood pressure began creeping up so my dosage went to 20 mg. and the cardiologist added amlodopinine. Then the anxiety and my blood pressure started increasing along with shortness of breath at times. I took my self off of
all medications and feeling much better and my blood pressure has come back down to an average of 135/86. I have started doing some breathing exercises I found on the net that take about 10 minutes a day that I believe are helping. Everyone is different on treatment for this disease.
