Linzess Prescribed To Help With Weight Loss

Hi! My Dr. Gave me linzess to help with weight loss. HOWEVER, I am reading all the posts about horrible weight gain, I am confused!!!!!!!

This medication isn't intended to be used for weight loss, it's actually used to treat chronic constipation. It can cause diarrhea, which could result in weight loss for some, as reported by the FDA, but it can also cause abdominal bloating and distention, which has caused many to think they were gaining weight on it.

Can anyone that's been on it chime in with their experiences?

Hello, Linzess can certainly be prescribed for the purpose of weight loss! People do not understand how medications can treat multiple...repeat MULTIPLE conditions, diseases and illnesses. Botox is FDA approved to also treat headaches, Methotrexate I was prescribed treats Psorasis...also Cancer... The list goes on. I have lost weight using this prescription because I actually had drug induced water retention (caused by my psorasis medication/weight gain side effect.) and in addition a gained weight post having my Gallbladder removed. Helps me! Stick with your physician's opinion.

I've been on Linzess for several months now and lost around 15 lbs when I began. I've had irritable bowel syndrome with constipation for 20 years and battled with wt gain & 6 week blockage. It does plain out and I was only going several times a day to once a week. Way better than the once every 2-3 weeks before taking Linzess. However, my dosage went from the 72 mcg to 145 mcg an increase last week. Ive lost 5 lbs. The wt gain comes from a blockage or not going. The wt loss comes from ridding your food after meals. Is what happens after eating. I've cut out bread, pasta, beer, crackers, wheat. As I'm suspecting after much research. This may be caused my a wheat intolerance. I'm happy with the way I've been feeling. More energy, no big distended tummy, depression and my skin has cleared up too. It's great to get that toxic waste out of there. Using this specifically for wt loss. It may help at first. I don't know about it to being useful for more than a couple of months. Having diarrhea for someone doesn't sound like a fun way to lose wt. Your doctor knows best though. I would hope. It has to be better than diet pills. I couldn't get a Dr to prescribe them to me before I found out there was an actual treatment for IBS with chronic constipation. It has certainly been a life changed for me.

I have been on The 145 mg dose for 2 months. I have lost 3 pounds in the last three weeks. I had recently lost 7 pounds on the whole 30 diet but have been on and off of it lately. I was delighted to see that I am still losing weight -another 3 pounds in the last three weeks. I think it has something to do with the Linzsis.

They just gave me samples of this medication two days ago. Is it safe I have health issues and Graves disease, diabetic and on sugar pills and shots,and other number of medicine and I am so worried about taking another medicine!?? I have asked the doctor and he actually acted as if I said nothing instead of asking a question!?? really want to change doctors,but can't. Any advice on how this works and true side effects please. Oh and I am also a uncontrollable thyroid disease patient.

I feel like Linzess empties out all the bad acid’s and unnecessary liquids from my stomach so I do feel immediate loss of weight. Then I am very careful about what I eat which also helps with weight loss.

I agree with you it is the best medicine that helps with constipation and irritable bile syndrome. Especially if you are on medications that causes constipation.

i took Linzess for constipation. It caused unpridicted diarhhia.
I didn’t want to have the runs everyday so I stopped taking it! I went back to high fiber foods.

I think if your really constipated you have bloating and gas especially when your taking linzess. I usually take it every other day, I've been taking linzess for a few years.I recently had surgery for a blockage caused by diverticulitis. But I still seem to have constipation, so I'm still taking Linzess.

In the past six months of taking linzess I have lost 13 pounds. It has greatly helped my IBS and I'm happy about the weight loss.

I have suffered from diverticulitis for 18 yrs. I have terrible constipation every since my first bout of diverticula. My drs. have suggested doing a colon resection in the future but have put me on Linzess for the constipation for now. Are you still suffering from constipation since your colon surgery? I was in hope the resection would correct this issue.

I would try the linzess in the morning with a big glass of water. Linzess didn't work by just swallowing a sip of water but with a full glass. I hope this helps.

I just started this meditation, I also have ibs-c . I have a wheat allergy so I am gluten free. I haven’t felt so much relief til now. I am having a lot of diarrhea. I have lost 13 lbs in 5 days since taking it , but it’s from all the blockage . My stomach has went down tremendously! I do not have any bloating, my stomach isn’t extended any more. I can finally focus on weight loss.

How long does it take to work?

I’ve been noticing that I feel like I can’t drink enough water. I still haven’t produced a bowel movement. I’ve been on it for awhile but regular for 8 days.
I feel so bloated.
