Kenacombe Ointment
UpdatedCan someone PLEASE tell me if a PRECAUTIONS LEAFLET should be inside the packet of KENACOMBE OINTMENT?
I was prescribed this ointment with no leaflet to rub into my scalp for 2 weeks for infected dermatitis; my doctor of 5 years knew I had a bout of shingles two years ago and was still suffering nerve spasms in the back.
After four applications of Kenacombe a rash appeared on my forehead; eyes severely itching and ears sore and itching. With no faith in the doctors in my area, I went to Brisbane for a second opinion to my rash as it was now spread to my breasts and midriff and down the top of my legs. The rash was burning and some blistering. The doctor in Brisbane indicated the Neomycin was the cause of the rash and burning and it would escalate for 14 days before easing!!
imagine if I had followed the original doctor and used it for 14 days.
Be warned if anyone has suffered a bout of shingles and are prescribed this product they may have a month of burning rash on their body.

Hi Pamela,
I'm very sorry to hear about your recent experience with this medication. Hopefully the rash/blisters are beginning to appear less prevalent than they were when you started taking it.
To my understanding, a pamphlet of some sort should always be given with every type of prescription medication. Especially one with such harsh side effects. It's really the doctor's responsibility to inform you of any and all side effects, but the pharmacists should also be aware of this too since they are the one selling it to you.
It sounds to me like you could've also been experiencing some sort of allergic reaction to one or more of the ingredients in it and not necessarily a side effect. But none the less, I hope you get better soon!
Thank you David for replying to the forum.
I rang the Terry White Chemist who filled my prescription and asked if any pamphlet was included in the Kenacombe ointment pack and she said no side effects lists were included and USUALLY the chemist would print one for you if it was for first time users. Unfortunately for me the doctor nor the chemist made me aware of the product and any side effects.
I always look and read the precautions that are usually in a packet and as there were none in the Kenacombe I thought it would be safe. How wrong can I be!
I hope this forum will make others aware of the lack of a side effects list in their medication. Thank you again for your response and yes I am slowly healing after a month of unreal burn, pain and now itching.
