Hello, Roxie! How are you?

According to the side effects details provide by the FDA, those are all common side effects of taking Eliquis and quite a few other people have complained about similar problems. Some have even had to stop taking it.

Other possible side effects may include easy bruising, joint swelling, cough and insomnia.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I understand Roxie, but before making a change yourself, please consult your doctor.

You may require something more than Aspirin and there are other medications they can prescribe for you, such as Coumadin, which is a blood thinner that FDA lists as causing side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and increase risk of bleeding.

How are you feeling, now?

I have been on Eliquis for two months: 2.5 twice a day. For the last month my legs have been very sore, and ache at night. This and started having trouble getting up, and felt too weak to go up the stairs, but i could if i made myself do it. I always walked quite often before this started but not enough to get sore. I stopped taking it and told my doctor and he is putting me on warfarin.

I just started eliquis 2weeks ago due to insistence of my cardiologist. 5 mg twice a day. The last few days I have been having leg cramps and I never have them. Also I was having a pedicure and when I moved my leg a certain way I had s cramp in my thigh. At night the cramps are in the calves. Anyone else have these?

I too take Eliquis for about 7 months now. The bottom of my feet hurt like they have stone bruise and the joints in my hands hurt more and more every day. Never had these symptoms before. I am 50 years old and am almost crippled. Getting up and walking around is a chore. Thanks for all the post. I am looking to see my doc again soon.

I have hair loss, leg cramps, itching of scalp and face, fatigue, weakness in legs, burning on soles of feet, head pain, lower back pain to name a few. I want to go down to 2.5, twice a day, but my doc says no. I'll have to split the 5 mg.

I had a blood clot in Dec 2017 in lower right leg. Put on Eliquis. Started experiencing side effects within weeks. Very dry mouth and felt the back of my throat closing in. After several months started feeling soreness in all muscles and joints. My lower right leg would swell every day. I stopped taking Eliquis four months later. Most of the side effects have gone with the exception of sore muscles in forearms and upper arms. Have extreme tiredness. Is anyone experiencing this even after stopping the drug Eliquis?

You say you got off Eliquis. Feel good. Did you start another blood thinner? I am on Eliquis nearly two years. Feel awful. Want off of it.

Anne, I just read your post. I hope you are still on this board.
Have you stopped Eliquis? If so, what did you replace it with? I’ve had all the side-effects listed. I woke up this morning with my legs hurting SO bad! I want to get off this medication but I’m so scared it will cause me to have a stroke.

I just got off of Eliquis. A woman pharmacist from a private pharmacy-one that compounds prescriptions and is very well regarded-told me that she had researched the issue for her mother and concluded Warfarin to be the safest blood thinner. I took my first one today. I am hoping the nausea I have lived with for two years will abate. Maybe it already has. I do not want to know about any side affects of Warfarin. Just hoping I feel better. My cardiologist sent me to a psychiatrist because I could not sleep after receiving pacemaker. I have been on Eliquis since before getting the Pacemaker when Afib showed up. I am hoping somehow I can now sleep. It has been two of worst years leaving me truly an anxious and changed person. I did not like antidepressant side effects but may consider trying them again since I have not returned to my former self-still anxious and sleeping very poorly. Hope some of this helps you. I am 75. Let me know if you want more information.

Yes, get that too, taking eliquis. Just as what has been said, they don't list the more bothersome side effects, typical, nothing can be trusted, as well we were lied to about covid vaccine. Don't advise anyone to take those.

I have all the above problems since I have been taking Eliquis for Blood Clots in my lungs. i don't like or trust any Pills and my old DR will not call me back. All he does is look and type in his computer and does not give me any eye contact. I may be old (82) but I still have a brain and I am not Stupid. One of my boys wants me to get off of all the DRUGS I have been taking and I have already changed DR'S. I was taking another Drug for a few Months so I am going to see if he will put me on something else.

Re: Toby (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

Getting a smaller dose of Eliquis can help. I talked my doc into reducing mine from 5mg 2x a day, to 2.5 mg 2x a day, because I am in my 80's he said OK. I think sometimes they prescribe too high doses just to 'be on the safe side'; it's your bod and your decision, so be firm, it might help symptoms.

Re: Anne (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Glad you got off Eliquis. Just to let everyone out there know I have all the side effects plus weight gain immediately, but what I want everyone to know and I am sure your Doctors will tell you this. I am on Eliquis because I am prone to blood clots. If you have afib Warfarin is probably fine and hardly no side effects, but for those out there who have a tendency to develop blood clots your Doctor should have you on Eliquis or Xarelto they have a better clotting factor. Please don't go off of Eliquis by yourself. Unfortunately I have to deal with these side effects. Good luck to you all.

Re: Anne (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Anne, thank you very much for your reply!
Like you, I am 75 yrs old but felt like 40 before I started Eliquis. My life was full and I was a very dedicated yoga enthusiast. Now I can’t even get up and down due to all the pain. I want to try Coumadin but my cardiologist is against it. He’s trying to discourage me telling me I have to have my blood checked at least monthly and it’s very hard to regulate. I think that’s a small price to pay to have my old life back. My dad had afib and was on Coumadin for years and never had ANY complications. I never heard him complain once about his muscles or joints hurting! When I go for my next cardio appt. I’m going to insist to be changed to Coumadin.
I wish you the best!

Re: Toby (# 10) Expand Referenced Message

I have been on Eliquis since Jan. 2 due to A fib. I soon began to experience many of the same complaints of muscle aches and joint pains described in these posts. It is sometimes quite unbearable. Two months into it, I had lots of swelling in my left knee and went to an orthopedic doc who drained it - no blood, fortunately.

When I first mentioned these symptoms to my cardiologist at about three months in, he said it was most likely the Lipitor that I had been taking for 15 years (without any problems) and told me to stop taking it for ten days. I did - no change.

In a visit last week, he was surprised to learn that there were these kinds of complaints about Eliquis and suggested that I must be in a very small (one in a million) minority. He told me to go ahead and stop the Eliquis for seven days and report to him on the seventh day (day after tomorrow) if there is any change. None so far.

My concern is 1) I am convinced this med is causing my difficulties, but I doubt seven days is enough time to see a reduction in these horrible symptoms, and 2) will the symptoms EVER go away? I told him I can’t live like this and would rather risk a stroke than continue feeling 20 years older than my 70 years.

The hip and knee pain and muscle aches to the front and backs of my legs are constant. I can hardly get out of bed or out of a chair - all since I started on Eliquis.
