Well put <3. Best wishes in feeling better! I too was prescribed soma, and NEVER did I feel withdrawal symptoms. Sometimes I felt yucky at the thought of taking it. However, it has been the only pill that helps out of the few I have tried. It doesn't make me feel drowsy after sleeping (I used at night) and that is very important to me. I am too drowsy on a normal day without any medicine in my body..
I stopped taking them years ago, and on my own will. I have been thinking about asking my Dr for them again, but because of the drug addiction issues these days, I don't even bother asking for fear of being judged because of the specific pill request. I like lortab 7.5 and I was prescribed them as well as the soma after a disc fusion. I don't take anything for my long list of disabilities from my brain to my feet the problems never go.. even with pain meds. I deal with it and some days, like today are harder than others but I manage.
It has been 5 yrs since I was prescribed my prescriptions. And I think I am to a point of needing some relief, but again, because of the judgement that gets passed on to those who are not addicts, I don't bother asking. I am not interested in anything different, I know what works best for me and my chemistry make up.
I wish everyone out there dealing with their own health problems a miracle in recovery. Best regards to all.

No Baclofen & Soma are different. Carisoprodol aka Soma IMO works better & is a stronger muscle relaxant.
However Soma (even though not a narcotic) has a greater abuse potential.
Which is why Dr.'s are moving us off them to something (Baclofen) that doesn't help at all, especially after being on Soma for any length of time.

You sound like a pompous, self righteous ass. How dare you go on this message board and judge people who you don't even know. You DO NOT know their problems or their life. Some people need certain medications, and when that person knows that the particular medication works then there shouldn't me a problem asking/discussing the possibility of being prescribed that medication. I've been a Physicians assistant for 12 years, and it's refreshing when someone knows what they need to be taking (within reason, and taking into consideration their past medical and prescription history). Don't judge people.

St8 or whatever you name is, I don't disagree with your statements but just because you can write out from memories your DX with Tx and med's with both generic and label names, makes you sound just as much like a drug seeking PT. Never discount or judge someone like this, you could be the part of a cycle for this person that isn't helpful.....or caring. It sounded rather selfish on your part. I'm sorry for your injuries but most addicts these days begin with genuine DX and pain that can spiral into addiction, don't be one that fails to see the whole picture cause it could one day be you, or it is you today with a well refuresed statement.

Soma is a controlled drug. They're in different classes, they work different, just depends on her body.

Dear Sk8ter, you have no clue what that person is asking for. I came on here because I couldn't remember the name of my muscle relaxer. You are a jerk. I actually couldn't recall if it was Biaxin which is a antibiotic or another than sounds like it that starts with a B and has an X in it. No, I am not seeking drugs I needed to know the name for my primary Drs appt. Some people are in too much pain to "suck it up" when you have cancer, or every vertebrae deteriorate, or/ well it really doesn't matter. Not everyone is a drughead like you were. BTW, why are you on here if you are not checking on drugs ? And I will be tell you right now, yep I take meds. Because I want to live a somewhat normal life. I want to go out with my friends and do things. And without medication, I couldn't . The very thought of someone telling someone else to suck it up makes me fricking sick . I hope you never have a SERIOUS problem healthwise where you HAVE to take meds.
TO THE REAL PEOPLE ON HERE, I am trying to find out what the name of my muscle relaxer is called. I always call it Biaxin but it is not the real name, this time in my bottle they put methocarbamol. Thank you and appreciate any help you can give .

To the woman who said that the other woman was only seeking Soma and that she was addicted to it is ridiculous. I was given Soma at the Massachusetts General Hospital I have multiple sclerosis but the minute I saw another doctor a neurologist he switched me to backofen but in order to get real baclofen you have to go to a compound agency to mix it because it is not the same Baclofen a minor ologist wants me to go to a compound agency to get it made but I cannot because Medicare Medicaid won't pay for that. I am not on the Soma but I used to have a pulling in my legs and I did text Soma at night and it did help better than they backofen so to say that this woman is addicted to it it depends if you are really in pain and something works why change it. Also back of sandwich I have studied can cause ovarian cysts and the only reason that doctors are prescribing it is because it is not a narcotic drug but it has a lot of side effects. So to the woman who was Downing The Other Woman for wanting to have her Soma back you really need to understand if a person is in pain they have a right to have the right medication and maybe you should do your own studying before you open your mouth and voice your opinion on something you know nothing about

If you think doctors "don't hand out oxycontin like candy" you grossly believe you're well informed. Guess you've never lived in Florida... and your 7 years clean bulls*** doesn't make you ANY better than anyone on this forum... This is all just an fyi from me to you. I'm sure you'll have some witty comebacks for me with all of your knowledge I do truly adore.

You, " sk8r" get off your high horse. This person is asking a question. Whether or not he is an addict, which he doesn't say or insinuate one way or another, doesn't matter. They asked a question. You shouldn't be lecturing. Go do your step work and learn something about consideration. To help with this topic on another note, I have been on flexoril for many months and it seems to work well for me. I have tried soma before and I did NOT like how it made me feel. This is just me though , everyone reacts differently to medications. You are right about the dosage as well in the post I saw before, one medication may be .5 mg while another is 500mg, that makes no difference when comparing two different medications because of their general make up.

I don't know if all these messages were for me or not. I just stated that a woman should not judge somebody else and call them an addict because they want Soma which helped in their pain. Baclofen can cause ovarian cysts and that is all that I stated. I did not like the woman's comment that another woman acted like she was a drug addict to get Soma. And back oven does not work as well as Soma if you have medical condition and something is working just because some people abused it doesn't mean everyone does that is all that I was commenting that to the woman who was bashing someone else for wanting to have her Soma back. I have multiple sclerosis and baclofen does not help and my neurologist suggested going to a compounding agency to get the real Baclofen evidently it has to be mixed. I know that a lot of people who do abused drugs has caused it very difficult for people who do need a certain drug for their pain and to be on a message board Downing somebody that said that the doctor wouldn't pay for their Soma or give them their Soma is not right. and to the woman who was lashing out at another woman calling her a drug addict for wanting her Soma you are totally incorrect. Maybe you should try going without medication for your pain sounds to me as if you do not have the type of pain that this woman has don't judge other people if you like baclofen well then take it but because someone else doesn't care for it doesn't make them a bad person and it does call cause ovarian cyst taking over a long period of time. I certainly would trust a neurologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital if they prescribe Soma to me years ago that there was a good reason that they did and not backofen so everybody is different and everybody's body is different so all I stated in the post was to the woman who was bashing another woman saying you're acting like a drug addict because you want Soma

Seems to me you are making uneeded judgements against someone. I HAVE TAKEN BOTH. SOMA WORKED WAY BETTER IN LOWER DOSAGE THAN BACLOFEN. I HVAE SEVER ATHRTITIS, I HAVE SEVER MUSCLE AND SKELETAL ISSUES FROM A 4 STORY FALL AS A CHILD. DOSAGE IS AS IMPORTANT AS THE DRUG USED. NOT ALL DOSAGES AND ALL MEDS WORK THE SAME FOR INDIVIDUALS. STEP OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE, YOU LIKE ALL 'FORMER' addicts walk away with a judgemental, holier than that pedastal you do not deserve. ADDICTION IS A SIN AND A MORAL WEAKNESS NOT A DISEASE. JUST AS JUDGING SOMEONE IS A SIN. SO BACK OFF DUDE! YOUR ALWAYS AN ADDICT BUT DONT PROJECT YOUR ADDICTION ISSUES AND FEARS ON OTHERS. IT'S "SICKENING" TO YOU USE YOUR HOLIER THAN THOU WORDS.

Enough already!!! Can we please get back to the actual topic???

I came to this thread for answers to the question of baclofen vs Soma. I have found only a handful of posts ON SUBJECT. Those of you bashing Sk8tr are as just as bad and vastly outnumber his post. I just spent an hour of my life that I can't get back reading posts that have nothing to do with the subject of this thread. Can we move past bashing Sk8tr's post now?

PLEASE GET BACK ON TOPIC. I came here looking for answers - not a free for all bashing session.

I have had a mess since the age of 14 backofen I do not like it Soma is much better for relaxing the muscles and is a stronger medication I used to take it at night prescribed for the Massachusetts General Hospital so they can't be all that bad and if somebody is in severe pain or tightness back of and does nothing that also causes ovarian cysts so there you got your answer from somebody who's been taking medication all her life backofen sucks it's simple as that

Re: Sk8r00 (# 21) Expand Referenced Message

So your Dr feels you need to be on that massive amount of prescriptions yet you take nothing and condemn those who are seeking info on a particular prescription that allows some of us to walk. No way in hell do you qualify for all those prescriptions based on factual diseases and yet don't take any and can function. Not possible.

Re: J (# 57) Expand Referenced Message

Soma is the strongest muscle relaxer on the market. Period. End of story. Baclofin may work better for you (and that's great, you're very lucky) but it is not stronger. Hence soma being a schedule IV and now nearly impossible to be prescribed because people who don't need it abuse it.

Exactly my thoughts..I have ddd, nerve damage L5, arthritis and injured my back and was scared to go to the ER because I just knew they would not help me, because of all the addicts around here....been crying in pain for weeks..finally went tonight and got Soma, Prednisone and 8 lortab... baclofen and zanaflex just put me to sleep..I'm still hurting..but at least they helped some. I need an MRI but the ER doesn't do that..weird..yeah that was rude of her to assume...I agree!! It's sad when u hurt so bad u feel the need to drink for the pain when ur stomach cant handle it and you're suffering and don't know what to do..so sad..so depressing..I'm sure people are killing themselves because they can't get meds for chronic severe pain because of the addicts!!

Nobody is harder, more critical, critizin nor quicker to put ourselves on the cross to crucify ourselves faster than we do to ourself. Only God can judge, u either positive reinforcement or part of the problem. Beware, God has a way of humbling us by putting us in that person's shoes to walk a mile and truly understand their struggles. I'm living proof. Love all you.... My brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus,. Peace, love, freedom & recovery to all you cause u beautiful and highly favored! Muah

Re: yodichick (# 20) Expand Referenced Message

Yes! Although baclofen made me sleepy for about the first week then I think my body got used to it and it is doing its job. I have tried soma, flexeril and a few others I cannot recall the name. Baclofen has actually been the only one I can tell a difference in my pain level. Then soma it helps some but you can tell it's no where near as strong as the baclofen and soma is the one that supposed to be a narcotic but helps me less. All our bodies aren't the same. There's a lot of judgy comments on this post. We all seem to be in pain and even if someone doesn't word a post right doesn't mean you should call them addicts. Not referring to your comment btw it's the ones above that had me with my mouth hanging open.
