Is Avelox Safe After Elbow Tendon Sugery?

I had the tendon in my right arm re attached after it tore, is it safe to take avelox or other family of drugs?

Possible side effects while taking Avelox include, gastrointestinal tract disturbances (nausea, vomiting, anorexia, bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and pseudomembranous colitis caused by Clostridium difficile), skin reactions (also Stevens-Johnson syndrome), rhabdomyolysis, and serious heart problems (prolonged QT interval and torsades de pointes). Development of resistance has been noticed as well as rare cases of hepatotoxicity and seizures. Tendon rupture (including rupture of the Achilles tendon) can also occur; people receiving corticosteroids, the elderly, and those who have received kidney, heart, or lung transplants are at particular risk.

I would always check with your doctor before taking someone elses prescriptions. Your reactions to the drug might not be the same for you as it is for your family member. I once fell down some stairs and really bruised my butt bone, and I did not go to the doctor. Instead I took one of my sisters vicodins to help with the pain. My sister had no bad reactions to it, however I felt sick, dizzy, and worse. My advice never take someone elses drugs, even if it is family.

One of the most serious side effects of the Quinolone Class of drugs, of which Avelox is a part of, is tendon rupture. While this is a rare problem, this is a well known problem for which there is an FDA Black Box Warning for, which means it's one of the most serious problems that the FDA recognizes.

Since this drug can cause tendon rupture and other tendon problems, this would be a grave error on the part of any doctor to give you Avelox or any of the Quinolone Antibiotics when you are already suffering from tendon rupture.
