Me too. I hated Methadone because I was prescribed it by an ***** Doctor on 120 mgs. That was for 14 yrs. The withdrawal on that amount was 3 years long. I was suicidal and not at all myself. I went back on pain meds when my neck went back to needing sx. So my new pain doc tried two different pain meds. Neither worked, you can tell in 30 days. So he said, "how about a small dose of Methadone again?". Frustrated w/ pain, I said Yes. OMGosh, it was like my body had wanted it all along. I'm on just 5mgs. 3 x a day and at 65, it works perfectly.....but know if you've ever been on Methadone you will not be able to have any procedure, oral sx with Twilight Sleep (Versid). It blocks it even if you are not on it anymore. Just be aware, I've had too many procedures AWAKE. Never again, I get a Valium bolster IV w/ Fentanyl bolster on top of the Valium and it works perfectly. Say something at your consult. Don't be surprised.

Verwon Says:

Technically any doctor that can prescribe medications can prescribe Methadone, but the problem is finding one that will do so. Due to new DEA recommendations, many of them are reluctant to do so and will usually refer someone to a pain management clinic.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

Do you have a PCP that you see regularly? If so, they should be able to refer you to someone.
