Updated

I have been on xanax 3 mg for almost a month now I stopped cold turkey last week and couldn't handle it by the fifth day. So now I'm back to 3 mg again. How to I tapper off to avaiod such problems again? I was only able to sleep 4 hours a night couldn't eat at all and my eyes were watering and I was just constantly feeling shakey like tremmors. Please help on what the best route for me is I do not want to be on anything addictive I just don't know what to do. I'm 23 years old and are very active. Just wanna get rid of benzos from my life!!

There are established methods for cutting down and I'm glad you still had some left, most people run out and then face a possible life or death situation. You can speak to your Doctor about this, assuming they were prescribed although you don't want to spook them. Do some Internet searching on the subject and never forget this experience!

Janis, you should not stop them cold turkey, because as reported by the NIH, that can create the risk of seizures.

The best and safest thing to do would be to speak to your doctor, so they can help you set up an appropriate tapering schedule.

Are you on the 3mg tablets, or do you take a lower dosage, several times a day? If you are on the 3mg tablets, then you cannot cut, or break them, either, because they are time released.

They are the 1mg footballs I have been on for about a month and a half taken 3 times a day. How fast do they come out of your system? Like does it come out as you urine?

It's very dangerous to stop taking them as u can have a seizure, even death. They are more addicting than pain pills etc if u want off them. If u are prescribed tell your doctor cause they have to slowly taper u off them. It could be months or less, depends on how long you have been on them. Trust me I know what I'm talking about. I tried going 10 days without any. I couldn't eat sleep. I felt like I had the flu & then I had a seizure & had to call 911. It was bad. I was so scared I thought I was dying. So please talk to your doctor or get one that will help u. I had to lie & say I wanted to kill myself just so I could get help to get off the benzos cause no doctor would help me. I wish u the best of luck. Please keep me updated.
