I Am A Chronic Pain Patient Taking Oxycodone And Oromorph, Laid Off Will Lose Doc And Insurance In May2010 How Do I Get Meds

Updated

I was born with a couple of congenital gynie twists. At seven I was up in the stirrups and then experiencing surgical intervention for a urethrastenosis (sic no doubt, sorry). I went along my chubby little girl life until 10, when severe dibilitating abdominal pain manifested. Eventually, since I understandably loathed and resisted doctor involvment , my parents squashed my resistance and I was taken to an office, then directly to the hospital where I was treated for dehydration and pain.. Bear in mind this was 1970. No one could figure out what it was, exploratory surgery did not pick up anything.Four months later, after just turning 11, puberty hit. I had horrific godawful cramps. Back up in stirrups, I was told that I had a severely tipped uterus and would never concieve. Imagine all our dismay when I got pregnant at 16 :). The cramps lessened up, but at 19 the pain started again, only on left side, and my left leg would stiffen. By then shotgun married and a mother, remember this is '80 or so, the pain soon just became a dull ever present nuisance. To make a long story long, in the '70's and '80's medical dogma re gyno or abdominal problems was thus: if you could conceive, there was no problem with that little baby making subsystem. I could not tell you the medical runaround, I think I would lose my audience here if I havent already. .Eventually the docs did what they did in the 70's and 80's they sent me to a shrink who sent me right back to the medical doctors. I did what patients usually do in this situation: I sat down and shut up. Fly ahead to me at 39. a mother of two. The pain decided to start misbehaving to the infinite power. Back in the stirrups-I swear before I go thru the pearly gates, St. Peter will tell me to lie down for a quick pelvic...doc said my uterus had dropped, the ever popular uterus descentsus and could be felt resting on my cervix. He recommended a vaginal hysterectomy with removal of ovaries, a 1 and a half procedure that would leave a very small scar in my bellybutton and make a new damn woman of me (smirk smirk). With my boyfriend sitting in the waiting room, 6.5 hours later my surgeon walked out and told him that there were complications. He had made the necessary ivaginal ncisions to gain access to the cervix, renoved it , then slid the uterus halfway out where it stuck. Well the small incision in my bellybutton became a spine deep incision, hipbone to hipbone, in docs words I had to cut her in half to get the mess out because as my uterus prolapsed, it had drug and tangled my ovaries thru my sigmoid and other bowels, and hed had to do a colon resection. It became clear pretty fast to me that the pain was still there, and doc told me chronic pain can happen when an injury is untreated for so long, that when it finally gets treated, the brain does not recognize it. I blame no one for this, everybody did the best they could do at the time, but I cant help felling angry at the fools who told me it seems to be all in your hysterical little feminine mind...and my present ins and docs have been wonderful. When the gynie retired, he told me that no docs would accept my case or fill my sizeable opiate scripts unless I visited chem dependency. I did my year, Chem dep determined that I had a dependence on opiates (who the heck wouldn't) but was not an addict with drug seeking behavior etc, and Dr H agrred to take my case. There I have remained until my layoff. My insurance runs out 5-2010. I am terrified!!How do I get these meds. I need them every day. Thank you I hope you can give me some pointers. Thanks for taking the time to read this War and Peace of an email.

I think it was the lack of paragraphs which lost everyone else.

Well, your best bet is to get a well-paying job so you can pay the cash price, or afford insurance (if they'll accept you). Methadone is a very cheap painkiller, and is probably the best bet for someone in your situation...
monthly costs to patients for oral methadone can be more than 30-fold less than equianalgesic doses of other generic or brand-name opioid analgesics.

Best of luck to you.

Gosh....I read your article all way through - would have been easier with paragraph spaces!
I am so sorry for you - my heart goes out to you. Although I cannot offer any tangible advice, I really hope there is a solution for you...when people complain over some trivial ache or pain, they need to read your story.....
I had knee replacement surgery last November....(recovering well) but fell down stairs; broke my wrist and have two torn rotator cuffs......when people tell me you've been through so much lately I answer 'there are always people so much worse than I.
I so hope you can find answers - there are people round the world who sympathize with you.

Re: Jason Argonauts (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I agree. Was on Methadone High Dose for 12 years. I won't bother U w/the 8 major problems, one is the 3rd most painful. When I jumped off Methadone, it took 4 yrs to make me feel sort of normal. I lasted 8 mos. w/o pain meds. Saw a new pain Doc. He gave me 2 different ones that didn't work. I cannot take ANYTHING coated. So back on Methadone but only 5 mgs 3 X a day and it works fine. One thing everyone NEEDS to KNOW. Methadone makes U allergic to Twilight Sleep. I have been thru 2 procedures w/o anesthesia. Versid or Twilight Sleep is commonly used and Methadone made ME at least immune to it's effects. Believe this will happen to anyone who has ever even taken Methadone in the past. Mention this before you have my horrible experience. And yes Methadone is effective and CHEAP CHEAP!!
