Hydrocodone Vs Hydrocodone Bitartrate

Can these be taken simultaneously? I have two separate bottles and have been advised by a friend they are the same

You're friend is correct, they are the same. The bitarate just designates the specific chemical salt that the medication was derived from and it was left off of the one label.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is hydrocodone bitartrate a less potent pain reliever than just the hydrocodone without bitartrate in it?

According to wikipedia, A bitartrate is a salt or monoester of tartaric acid. And from what I understand, the presence of bitartrate simply affects a tablet's solubility / bioavailability. Nevertheless, to address your question, my research leads me to believe that all hydrocodone products contain bitartrate even if it's not specifically listed on the label. So odds are that the hydrocodone without bitartrate listed probably still contains the salt and therefore there is no difference in strength. That's just my take on this, so if anyone else has more information to offer, please do post back.
