Hello, Becky! How are you?

You have to be in full withdrawal, before you can safely take Subutex. Taking it too soon may cause you to go into dangerous precipitated withdrawals.

The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addition, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Thats not true. You don't have to be in full withdrawal for Subutex. Suboxone is the one u have to wait for to take. Subutex does not have the blocker (Naloxone) in it. So you can take it before u feel like s***

I think there is some truth to what Verwon said, though individual experiences may vary:

"Buprenorphine can actually block the effects of full opioid agonists and can precipitate withdrawal symptoms if administered to an opioid-addicted individual while a full agonist is in the bloodstream."

Incorrect. The Naloxone doesn't do ANYTHING. It's there to stop abuse. It's a bulls*** scare tactic and even doctors don't understand Suboxone as much as the people that take it.

Precipitated Withdrawals are brought on by Buprenorphine RIPPING whatever other drug you had attached to your opioid receptors because the binding strength is STRONGER than most other opioids. Except that bupe doesn't really make you feel as good so "replacing" what you had in your system really screws it up and makes you feel worse.

I don't agree with calling Precipitated Withdrawals "dangerous". They may feel worse than regular withdrawals but they usually only last a few hours at most.

I actually like to take over the counter sleep medication (not TOO much) so that I'm really tired, I take some sub then sleep, I wake up in the middle of the night to take a little more and keep passing right out, sleeping through the withdrawals. It's possible you may not be able to do this depending on the severity.

No you do not! U have no idea what u r talking about. With suboxone u have 2 be in withdrawal. With subutex u do not. Subutex is used for pregnant women because they can't go through wd without risking the baby.

Fyi...speaking from experience, both subs are potent pain killers and yes suboxone has naloxone ,which is an opiate blocker, to some extent...it in itself relieves pain and makes you feel pretty damn good. I take it when I run out of my other meds just so Im not sick. So I guess it depends alot on what you have been taking and how much as to whether its going to throw you into serious withdrawals? It only helps me...makes me feel normal again. Goodluck

Wow! There are some crazy confessions going here. I agree the naloxone has the potential to block, probably depends on the individual. I am a natural energetic person, but it still blocks a bit bc I don't feel the extra energy. You don't have to wait til withdrawals start bc it's purpose is for withdrawals. If you don't stop taking either one once your opiate dependencies are over, which should be 2-4 days, then your body is gonna become use too or attachable to either one you are abusing. It's designed purpose is to help for the withdrawals for quitting the opiate addiction, not to just get a buzz from the sub or to hold you over. It's all about quitting!!!!!

Re: Kevin (# 9) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks for sharing! I'm glad that I found out myself! This med doesn't stop the pain all the way but it sure freaking works! So I take a 1/4 in the morning, and if I think I'm going to be sick or start feeling sick! None of that bs narcan s***! Subs last me at least 2 days! I learned a lot about these meds. May everyone have a blessed day.

Your right Subutex is different from suboxone, No blocker which means it wont crash with opiates. You can do both at the same time. That's why doctors don't like prescribing them. You can take Subutex and still use opiates basically at the same time. Suboxone you have to be in pretty much full withdrawals to take or you will be sorry you took it.

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Not true. You can take bupe 24 hrs from last opiate usage. A lot of people are confused about subs. The Buprenorphine is the drug that blocks opiates as it binds to the receptors and Doesn't allow opiates to attach. The only reason the naloxone is in there is to deter from abusing it. Naloxone is Narcan, the same thing they use to revive an OD, it reverses the affects of opiates. So, learn the facts of the drug before you use them. Ask ur Dr. Be safe. Don't try to abuse ur meds. We are on them to recover, not to feel high. It's a wonderful drug, and I have had lasting results. The reason suboxone came about is because people were abusing subutex, so they added naloxone to deter abuse. Subutex + naloxone = suboxone. Be safe.
