Diphenoxylate and Atropine is an oral antidiarrheal medication. It is commonly sold in the U.S. under the brand name Lomotil.

Common side effects may include: nausea, dizziness and bloating.

Lomotil is a med that not only works on diarrea but al stops withdrawal from opiates, this something docs need to look at!

Thanks for the informative post, Taddeusz, I had not heard about that, before.

Since it is not approved for that use, most doctors probably have no idea. Though, over time, they do usually pay attention to what other conditions a medication can help with and they can prescribe it off-label according to their personal experience.

How did you learn of this?

i inadvertinally ate two slices of bread that had white mold on it and had diarria for three weeks. Finally contacted my MD and he prescribed 'diphen atrop mylan'. it has helped but has not stopped the runs. Stool is still very soft and messy. what can I do to get solid stools?
