Morphine and Hydrocodone actually convert on a 1 to 1 ratio, so to equal 60mgs of Morphine, you'd need 60mgs of Hydrocodone.

However, you can't take that many, due to the Acetaminophen in them. The limit for that is 3,000mgs daily, as set by the FDA. Exceeding that could result in fatal overdose toxicity.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Have you been switched from one to the other, or are you trying to switch yourself?

Omg really for one thing they only make7.5 norcos not 750 that would be the acetaminophen and methadone is much stronger than a norco 7,5 325 because they don't put 750mg in norco anymore because people were taking a overdose of acetaminophin so they are probably 325!

I am prescribed hydrocodone 7.5/325. My Doctor explained to me that it contains 750 Milligrams of Norco, and 325 milligrams of acetaminophen. I have been taking this medication for 7 years now. And I have been going to the same doctor Since I was 5 years old, I am now 40. I don't believe my Doctor would lie to me concerning this matter.

7.5 means 7.5mg not 750. If you notice the 7.5 has a point between the numbers while the 325 didn't. When it comes to Norco or hydrocodone an opiate intolerant person's overdose point is about 90 mg or so in a 24 hr period. So if you started out taking 750mg of Norco. That would have been enough to cause you to stop breathing. Also they make Norco in a 10mg dose and that is the highest mg they go for non- extended release of this medication. In ER it comes in 50mg to be distributed in the body over 12hr period. I am so sorry that your dr. didn't clarify this to you with your 7 yrs of taking it. The whole reason they make oxycodone and other stronger pain meds is to prevent people from having to take a lot of mg doses of medicine to manage pain that way you don't fry your pain sensors in you brain if that happens nothing will work. Also the longer you take pain medicine the more likely you will build up a tolerance to it .So essentially you will need more of it to achieve the same pain relief that it gave you initially. Just throwing that out there but how would a hospice nurse know(since I am not a dr) its not like I deal with pain meds every day for patients. Have a good day. Knowledge is power use it wisely.

Don't even think about it. You would almost certainly die from liver failure should you attempt to take that amount required due to the acetaminophen content. Hydrocodone itself is six times potency of codeine; morphine salts are FORTY times codeine. Do the maths - any more than 1g apap is considered overdose, and more than 4g in 24 hours likely to cause, if not death, then serious hepatic damage which is as irreversible as the same cirrhotic damage done by ethanol spirits like whisky or vodka.

I agree with the numbers, having been a member of an emergency room staff. However, a lot of people may misconstrue the numbers since not that long ago 750 viccodin was one of the main medications given for post op and chronic pain. I don't believe pointing out your resume to prove a point is necessary. People need a safe place to ask and answer questions if they don't understand what their doctors and/or other medical professionals provide for information.

Your doc didn't lie. You misunderstood. There are 7.5 mg of hydrocodone in a "750" and 325 mg of Tylenol.

One other consideration, morphine doesn't work as well orally as other pain medications. It doesn't metabolize well in the digestive tract.

I'm sorry but the person before you was right. It takes 30mg morphine to equal 20mg of hydrocodone, possibly because of the acetaminophen. But he's right about the rest. Plus morphine is a sedative and makes you groggy where hydrocodone peps you up for a little bit

Also for the best result you're suppose to ly flat on your back from 40 minutes to an hour so the medicine will level out, that's what my Mamas oncologist told me.

I'm an RN and have never heard that. The medication is absorbed in the stomach and to a lesser degree the small intestine into the blood stream. I can't see how laying down would affect anything. Taking it on an empty stomach will give you better results. That's if it doesn't nauseate you too much.

I was looking at your post and you mentioned morphine don't metabolize good . I can't take what others take so they gave me that & I have major stomach issues from all NSAIDs so they took me off those for my stomach bleeding ( gastric stomach ) will that hurt me more ? I have lupus , endo and see my oncologist for lymphnopathy with B symptoms so I'm having trouble with proper pain control due to the new guidelines & im using numbing lotions and oils to help some things . I'm still learning about lupus & it's affects on my entire body . I didn't know it caused kidney stones ! And so much leg swelling . It seems my life as forever changed but hopefully there's a good cure or medication they can make soon ! Thanks !
