How Long Does Morphine Take To Alleviate Pain

Hi all, I need some help. I was taking 2 - 5mg percs a day for my fibromyalgia, unfortunately I have now developed two tumours and a cyst on my hip which cause excruciating pain. My doctor tried me on a gamut of anti-inflammatories but due to my colitis those were not tolerated, she also tried a couple other pain meds, those and the 5mg percs were not cutting through the pain. She just gave me 5mg morphine sulphate 4 x day until my mri and surgery. I have taken one morphine pill about a half an hour ago and am still in the same amount of pain. How long does the morphine take to work? If the morphine doesn't work, is there anything I can suggest other than percs? I worry that I will look like I am drug seeking but I cannot function at all with the pain and haven't gotten much sleep or relief in 3 weeks. Any advice would be appreciated

Usually, it should start to help within about 15 to 20 minutes of taking it, but the 5mgs is not comparable to the Percocet you were taking, so it may not be a high enough dose for you.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth.

Has there been any change?

Thank you for your insight. I took one morphine pill and did not get any relief and felt ill from the side effects. I went back to 1 Percocet twice a day. Unfortunately, they don't last long enough to get through the day nor stop the pain completely, but at least makes it tolerable.
