How Long Do Opiates Such As Amitriptyline Stay In Your Urine

Hi, I have a drug screening test to become a walgreens pharmacy tech. I took 100 mg of amitriptyline last night to help me sleep. It wasn't until I woke up that I realized opiates come up on test. Everything would be fine if I actually had a prescription for it.....I know very stupid. Can anyone pls tell me how long it will take for my system to be clean.

Hi Marie! Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant, and the generic for Elavil. There is no opiate in it. A couple of the off-label uses for it are for chronic pain and insomnia. Some drug screenings detect tricyclics and SSRIs, and some only detect controlled substances and illegal drugs. Since you only took one, it probably won't show up even if the screening kit is one that will detect tricyclics and SSRIs. And if it does show up, it may be overlooked since there are so many people on antidepressants. I wouldn't worry too much. Just make sure you don't take any more (at least until AFTER your screening)! Best of luck!

hi my name is cali and i was wondering if i would fail a piss test on friday and todY IS WEDNESDAY.. i took an amitriptyline 20 minutes ago and its 9:20pm to help me sleep.. it is not a prescribtion drug for me.. will i fail if i have a piss test in less than 48 hours

I take 100mg of Elavil a night for fibromyalgia, I failed a urine drug test with my employer, it took 2 weeks to send through a lab and them verifying my script before I could start, I don't know what Elavil shows up as but it does show up.

Elavil causes false positives for LSD, so that's probably it.

I've been on amitrypline for around 6/7yrs if dvla wanted a test will it show up that I have been taking it long term, even though they know I have but now they are refusing my licence I take 150mg five nights a WK, I'm not drowsy the next day, I need them but I need my licence more as there are no buses at the time for me to go to work I start @ 5.30am.

No. It's a tricyclic antidepressant. Benzodiazepines are a completely separate class of medication

Yes. Parole does test for it. It comes up as a tca in a drug test.

Elavail (Amitriptyline) is not an opiate or a narcotic. It is a tricylic anti-depressant used to treat depression, insomnia, fibromyalgia, and headaches. Most drug tests are screening for illegal drugs or narcotics, so I'm pretty sure you will be fine. But elavail will stay in your system 3-12 days depending on usage and metabolism.

I take amitriptyline for depression and fibromyalgia. Because of being sick, recently, I haven't taken my prescription in 6 days and today I came up hot for opiates. I don't do drugs or drink so the amitriptyline is the only thing that could have caused the positive result. I have done the research and know there are no opiates in amitriptyline but it can still show on a drug test as such. Just because you can pull information off Google, doesn't mean that's how it plays out in the real world.... yes you can pop positive on a drug test.

Amitriptyline may not be an opiate, but it is an opiod receptor antognist, meaning it will bind to opiod receptors, but not activate it. It therefore blocks teh receptor and opiods can no longer bind to them. For this reason, Amitriptyine will bind to a morphine antibody binding site and result in a positive result for opiates.
