Hello, Michael! How are you?

It usually takes about 3 days, unless your doctor instructs otherwise.

The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

BE CAREFUL! Precipitated withdrawl will happen if you take it too soon. I don't know your dose of methadone you have tapered off the Half-Life of that poison is @least 72 hrs or more. Depends on alot. How much how long how you metabolized the stuff. I speak from experience. Personally I would give it a wk.Good luck!

A doctor at a methadone clinic once told me I can go right from Suboxone to methadone with no withdrawal. When I tried to explain to him that Suboxone contains a powerful antagonist that can bring on a sudden, dangerous withdrawal, (I'm over 60 years old) he became angry and walked out of the room. I later found out I was right. This doctor could have killed me.

Even now, with slow tapering of Suboxone, my blood pressure and resting pulse went up to dangerous levels. (Blood pressure--198/98 and resting pulse: 98.) My family doctor put me on a calcium channel blocker and added a low dose of a beta blocker to get my vitals down to normal levels. I also have a poor lipid profile and am afraid of getting a heart attack or a stroke during my tapering. I've been on 8-2 Suboxone sublingual strips twice a day for over 6 years. My doctor said to go down 1 mg. of Suboxone a week, but I find it difficult to estimate how much to cut off the sublingual strip. I also suffer from severe treatment resistant depression. I am on a load of other drugs for my depression. The last time I tried to withdraw from the Suboxone too quickly, I developed severe depression and chronic diarrhea. I finally passed out and fell in my kitchen. The psychiatrist who gave me the Suboxone suddenly packed up and left my city. I was able to track him down. After I explained my situation, he gave my a 3 month supply of Suboxone and gave me the 1 mg. a week instructions. I am trying to gradually cut back and am exercising every day but still finding it difficult. I am getting involuntary muscle spasms at night. Many nights, I find myself halfway off my bed from involuntary leg movements. One night, I fell completely out of bed and had trouble getting up. I had the feeling of profound weakness and had trouble getting myself back into bed.

I can't find a psychiatrist in my small city who is a Suboxone dispenser. My family doctor told me to look in LA or the Bay area of California. I can't go out of town regularly because I am the primary caretaker for my adult son who gets severe attacks of delusions. (He was diagnosed with a form of psychoses.) He is completely dependent on me and his therapist.

I desperately want to get off the Suboxone. Do you, or does anybody think I can do it? I've already gone down a little more than a quarter of each strip. I have a slightly less than a 10 week supply of Suboxone left. If I need more and can't find another Suboxone doctor, I would be forced to go on methadone at, hopefully, a better clinic. But I don't want to get hooked on that stuff. I've heard it's even more difficult to get off of it.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Actually in your 1st paragraph you were wrong that's why the doctor walked out...he's a doctor and your trying to tell him about medicine...you have it backwards you can go in wd if you take subs after methadone not the other way around

Sub only has a partial antagonists in it. And u can take sub directly after sub I just wont feel it. Its when u take sub before the dome wears off that you get sick. The sub rips the dome from your receptors leaving u in precipitated withdraw . So the reason ur doc walked out is because you were very wrong just saying...

I have been on fentanyl transdermal patches 100 mcg for around 10 years and have recently been without because of my pharmacy being out of stock. I didn't have to go cold turkey as I had hydrocodone which provided very little help, bad withdrawals and I was in bed screaming because of my back which is the reason for my pain medication. I have been to one of the best neurosurgeons in the country and the risk vs reward is not close. With all of this said I was on methadone for a couple of years then I was taken off. It had become a popular street drug w/ xanax and killed people.

DO NOT go on methadone unless you are not planning on ever stopping. I was put on strong pain meds such as oxycontin and another opiate, also valium, and still had withdrawals over a week. Stay away from methadone and fentanyl unless you have no choice, as I have I tried everything under the sun. My back and neck pain came from a motorcycle accident that doctors told my parents was a miracle I lived but having to be on pain meds to function and with people using them for pleasure or to party I would like to trade places with these people and maybe they could get an idea of what their actions cause us with legitimate reasons to be on pain meds and make it almost impossible to get the meds that helps just enough to make the pain tolerable.

I was on methadone for 2 years (this go round) and got up to 140 mg. I dosed daily and only missed maybe 5 days the whole 2 years. I got health insurance finally so I go to the doctor and tell him I'm go to the methadone clinic but wanted to get under a doctor's care. Instead of giving me the methadone, as he did with the other patients I knew that went there, he gave me suboxone. Tells me to wait 24 hours but no sense I have been on it a while wait 48. Ok nope this was not my first rodeo. At this time I had decreased to 90mg. So I started decreasing by 10mg a week until I got to 50mg. (the clinic would not let me) Then by 5 mg a week. I got down to 35mg. I was going on vacation so I wanted to use that time being off work to switch over. My last dose of 35mg was on a Tuesday morning at 6:30am. I had no kind of withdrawals until Saturday morning when I woke up.

Well I have been through precipitated withdrawals before so I was scared to death to do it. When I got to the point that I had the creepy crawlys and was hitting the bed because I couldn't sleep I said screw it if I do I got to try. So I did a quarter. Thank God I wasn't sicker just still sick. So i took the other quarter. Nothing. Half. Nothing. Whole. Nothing. (I did wait some time before each one) So about 2 or 3 hours after taking the last one I said 1 more and if nothing I'm going home & going to get methadone. I took it and went to sleep. When I woke up I felt tons better. Wasn't to where I wanted to run a marathon but way better. So if you're able to do it the right way and taper off the methadone and wait at least 72 hours you should be fine. I am so so glad I did it that way and didn't listen to my genius doctor. Wanted to say when I did something stupid and made my self go into precipitated withdrawals and I was so sick I thought I was going to die, I was able to get 4 10mg pills and took 2 and by the grace of God I was able to fall asleep. When I woke up I didn't want to die anymore and took the other 2 and was fine. Everyone is different we all know. I just wanted to share my experience. I have to add also that I did end up taking like 4 or 5 subs the first 4 or so days. It could of been in my mind but I do wish I wouldn't of done that cause now that I'm not taking that many a day I do feel bad quicker. As with any meds I guess. I'm doing my best to stick with it!

Re: gagelle (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Haha you're wrong 60 yo man ;) ... You cannot take partial opiate after full agconist like methadone but if you are in precipitated WD , take 100 mg of methadone and it will level you out. I put myself in percipitated WD 4 times in my life. I even had a naltrexone implant while in WD . It doesn't matter suboxone or subutex if you took drugs at least 24 hrs prior you'll have WD times 10....it's very hard on the body. One girl told me she'd rather give a birth to a child without an epidural , than go through percip WD again

Wow guys... Are you not reading these questions thoroughly before answering? He's asking if you can take methadone AFTER Suboxone or Subutex. The answer to the question is, yes... You can take a sub and within the same 12 hours take methadone with no issue. Take the methadone FIRST and then take a sub and you'll have problems.
