How Long After Taking A Suboxone Can You Use Fentanyl Patch

Updated

Ok..so I've been on Suboxone 8mg strips for 2 years. However, I've been only taking 4mg a day starting a week ago and have only taken 1mg the past 2 days. I have a fentanyl patch because, frankly, I'm tired of suffering with my ungodly back pain. My question is probably predictable, but given the low doses I've taken, if I use the patch tomorrow morning, will I feel the effect? If I do use it, tomorrow morning will be 24 hrs since my last dose of 1mg suboxone.

Generally, it takes 72 hours for the Naloxone in the Suboxone to process, before you can take other opiates and have them be effective, unless your doctor instructs you otherwise.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

No I've been taking fentanyl 100mcg patches for a few months. How long must I wait until I take Suboxone 8-2mg so I don't get sick with the withdrawal symptoms? Does anyone know?

Hi tim, I see your question was posted around 6:00am on saturday the 21st...When did you last take your 8 mg dose of suboxone? Also, how long have you been taking an 8 mg daily dose of suboxone? These are both important factors to consider. I am not a medical professional, but I can share my personal experience with you & you can take it for what it's worth. I have been on suboxone for over 6 years. In these 6 years I have had one isolated occasion in which I absolutely needed temporary relief from oral pain due to needing a root canal & having to wait a few days. After having been successful for 2 years on suboxone at this point, I can sincerely tell you I was not looking for a cheap high on what would be a really pathetic & piss poor excuse for an intentional relapse. I was very plugged into my recovery & had faith in myself that I could navigate the situation successfully, as I had heard several people at my recovery club house talk about these such situations & what they did to handle it responsibly. Since I'm not sure of your specifics, for argument sake I will assume you have been taking 8 mg of suboxone daily for an indefinite amount of time I'll also assume is over 60 days...If you are truly in dire need of therapeutic pain relief as I was with deep down to the core throbbing molar pain that made me cry like a baby & want my mommy at 41 years old (lol, sadly true, but very temporarily), then to get the most benefit from your pain patch, do not touch your suboxone for a good 72 hours! Certainly nothing less than 24 hours, and if you can't wait a good 3 days, use your patch sooner but be prepared for it to be more like 75-80% effective, ya know? Do not get more than you need and if you are in a situation where you just don't think you can trust yourself but are lucky enough to either be living with someone whom you do trust or have someone close by who fits the bill, give them your meds to hold.

I have never used a fentanyl pain patch or any other form of fentanyl, if that even exists, so I don't know how strong it is or what it actually feels like compared to pills, but I was prescribed vicoprofen along with antibiotics, which I'd never even heard of but apparently it's common with dental stuff...Pretty sure it was light weight stuff compared to the stuff I took before, but I still felt it, maybe due to not having had anything like that in 2 years? It did it's job which was a huge relief, but I also felt very uncomfortable because I did feel a buzz. It was pleasantly nostalgic for less than a minute & then my adrenaline shot up & I felt guilty, however that was super short lived because I forgot that when you use a pain killer for pain & it kicks in after 20 minutes or so, your pain subsides & that's all I really felt after a while. They also made me sleepy which I was very grateful for & went to sleep. I was able to successfully take 12 of these tablets over the course of 4 days & I think I resumed my suboxone about 36-48 hours later, and that was june 2012 & no looking back :) good luck to you & let me know how you make out.
