High Hemoglobin Testopel

Updated

I have been happily receiving the benefits from TESTOPEL pellets implantation now for almost four (4) years. In the last few months, a doctor called me at home @ 8:30 p.m. which surprised me to say the least. He was both alarmed and concerned because the lab test I had done the day prior showed an unhealthy high level in my hemoglobin. It was 19.8. I am a 70-year-old male. According to what I've been able to learn so far, hemoglobin at this level causes the blood to THICKEN and can/may cause cardiac issues including heart attacks and/or strokes. There can be a multitude of reasons that causes this, but one of them is HRT. I'm NOT taking a high number of pellets, receiving ten (10) every three (3) months. I have only one (1) testicle as one was removed in 2010 due to extreme, chronic prostate infection that 'got out of hand' and began to EAT THROUGH the testicle itself, causing extreme pain. I depend on the TESTOPEL for a myriad of reasons, including energy, mood elevator, libido, sleep etc. My question is whether anyone else has had this issue come up? If so, what treatment did you receive. It appears an oncologist is going to begin treatment after the Holidays, the chief act being "bloodletting" ............... withdrawing blood in larger quantities than just a donation which could/should help lower my hemoglobin. Any thoughts, suggestions anyone has would be much appreciated. I apologize, also, for submitting this rather l-o-n-g post. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Hello, Bob! How are you?

This can happen with such HRT medications and it can create the risk of stroke and heart attack, so it does require medical attention.

Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may include dizziness, headache and irritability.

Has anyone else experienced this who can chime in with your experiences?

Donate blood . Had the same problem donated a few times and all better. Donating blood on TRT is common, legal, necessary.

I had the same problem and was told to donate blood. Unfortunately, when I went to donate blood, I passed out when they were only half way done. Now I am concerned as whether to continue with the Testopel. Another issue I have been having is slower urine flow and frequent urination. My doctor told me I must have an enlarged prostate. Now I feel I have 2 negative issues with Testopel and don't feel that I should continue with implants. By the way, I am 51. Any thoughts?

Hey Pete: Thanx for your input and thoughts. I KNOW I have enlarged prostate, but had that way-yyyyy prior to starting TESTOPEL. I have now done the "bloodletting" TWICE, feeling no different afterwards, and unfortunately no decline in hemoglobin levels, either. As I've tried to emphasize each time I post on this site, it is important to always remember that no two (2) individuals react to ANY RX or medical procedure exactly the same. My oncologist -- after tests, discussion and thought has agreed to me continuing with TESTOPEL, but only six (6) pellets and no more often than every four (4) months. I urge you to continue to search for 'answers' to your OWN situation and problems. You deserve the best quality of life possible. I wish you luck, my friend.
