Help Find A Doctor That Prescribes Methadone

I am 40yrs. old and broke my back and am confined to a wheelchair. I'm in a lot of pain. I've tried a lot of different meds and methadone has worked the best. I live in erie, pa and can't find a doctor to help me. If anyone knows of any please help. I will drive as long as it's not too far away. Thank you. My name is Bill.

Bill - Have you tried looking for a pain management doc/clinic? Have you talked with your primary doc about getting a referral? I'd start there.

Other resources I'd check are with the social work departments of area hospitals. Many of them have referral services or in-house pain management clinics, which may be your best bet. If all else fails, there's always methadone clinics, though most of their clients are going to be there for addiction reasons. Not all of them are bad, though. I'm not sure if BHG operates a methadone clinic in your area, but if they do and you're out of options, check them out as my experiences with them has been good. They aren't your run of the mill methadone clinics and they won't break the bank, either. I've been pretty happy with the professionalism of the staff, the location of clinics, level of cleanliness and safety, and the like. But again, I'd keep that for a last resort if nothing else pans out.

So sorry about your accident. I am in Ca. and before I went to a Pain Spec., my Primary Care doc prescribed Methadone. Why can't your PCP prescribe for U ? They must know you are in pain so must be another reason. There is a Pain Patients Bill of Rights which protects us but ultimately it would be up to the Doctor in spite of the law. I'm wondering why your PCP will not help...many Docs think they need a special Rehab license. They do not in my state UNLESS you are a drug abuser or a Doc Shopper.

Florida has limit laws on methadone for pain clinics & pharmacies. I've had nothing but problems since coming to Fl. I'm selling out and moving to the people-friendy west (AZ / CA) or Ohio / Michigan. I got 120 mgs a day from my family Dr. in Ohio, but I can barely get 40 mgs in SW FL. Please help me locate a few doctors who prescribe methadone in South Florida for chronic pain.
