I am prescribed oxycodone 10mg taken 4 times daily. I take them as directed. I recently took a 5 panel hair follicle test and it came back negative on everything. Does anyone know a reason that this would not show up on a hair test? I did not have my hair colored or bleached in over two years and I did not take anything to try to alter the results. Thanks!

The reason oxy didn't show up in a Hair 5 Drug Panel test is that it is not tested for in that panel. In order for it to show up on a hair test you would need to take a test with the Extended Opiates which are the pain killers like oxy.

So percocet wouldn't show up as an opiate? The people that administered the test said it should of shown up and they didn't know why it didn't.

In a normal Hair 5 Drug Panel test the opiates tested for are codeine, morphine and heroin. If those were the only opiates tested for then percocet won't show up. If the (extended) opiates tested for included, hydrocodone, hydromorphone and Oxycontin then oxy would show up. The one page report, I provide with each test, actually lists ALL the drug that were tested for. If the people who administered the test don't know this they need to get educated and quickly. Or maybe there not qualified to administer the test. I've worked in the hair test biz for 16 years.

A hair drug test is meant to show consistent use over time. That small of an amount won't show up on a hair drug test.

I just found out that I have to take a hair follicle test for family court. I have chronic pain and no insurance. I have taken a total of 5 subutex pills (I do not know what strength, probably 8 MG) over the past 90 days when my pain was unbearable. What is typically tested for in a follicle test, and is it more probable that I will pass or fail due to this? I'm losing lots of sleep, please help.

Buprenorphine isn't usually tested for in a Hair 5 Drug Panel hair drug test and it is usually not in the Extended Opiate hair drug test either so my best guess is that it won't show up. Even if they tested for it I think that you didn't take enough to show up in a hair test. FYI - Testing includes the NIDA 5 drugs of Marijuana, Cocaine, Opiates (codeine, morphine, heroin), Amphetamines, Phencyclidine (PCP). If any components of Methamphetamine, MDA or Ecstasy (MDMA) are found in the preliminary test a confirming test will be conducted.

Thank you so much. My ex is making false allegations of drug use about me to detract attention from his continued iv use. However, I am obviously aware of how it looks for me to deny said allegations and then have this turn up in my hair, for that reason I thought about preemptively disclosing the info to court, but obviously that route may have its own drawbacks.
I have been researching things like Mac method, etc but I couldn't find any clear info on its effectiveness for opiates/opoids. This is just extremely important to me as I've just been made aware of his claims and I do not want to leave anything to chance since it concerns custody of my child.

My hair test came back with a level of 2081. I had a prescription for 15- 5mg . Is this around where my levels should be with that use?

Even a doctor can not give a definitive answer to that question. You didn't say how often you were taking it and if it was oxy only or combined with something else.

I took 15 5 mg oxycodone tabs in just about a weeks time. That was the duration of my prescription. Would the levels be different if I spread them out, or took them all around the same time?

TheHairTestingGuy Says:

OK, the 2081 level makes sense after see how many you took. It would not matter if you took them all at once or spread them out. Once the lab gets the hair they take part of the 1.5 inch sample (assuming it was a 90 day history) and pulverize it into a powder then start testing so in effect the 2081 is an average over the 90 days.

No, stay clean until your test. However I just recently passed a five panel. I'm prescribed roxicet. It did not show. I had a joint about 58 days before and it didn't show. Honestly the rest is designed for ongoing daily abuse of drugs.

TheHairTestingGuy Says:

If your hair is 1.5 inches long the test would go back 90 days. My best guess is that you won't pass a hair 5 drug panel with extended opiates.

TheHairTestingGuy Says:

It depends on when you have to take a 5 panel hair drug test and whether it is has the extended opiates included. If it is an extended opiates test you might have trouble passing it. The hair 5 drug panel won't test for the narco. It also takes about 7-10 days for the hair to grow above the scalp so it can be tested for.
