Had To Restart Lo Loestrin Due To Missed Pills

Hello, so I have been on this BC for 4/5 months i had to end up throwing a pack away because I've missed pills and i had my period in the middle of the month. Then i started a new pack and when I was supposed to start my period after the blue pills were completed I just had very light brown discharge not enough to use a tampon or pad. Now I started another pack and still just have the light brown stuff here and there and no period. However I have felt light cramping a few times. Is it normal that I missed my period because I had to restart and throw a pack away?

Yes, that is normal, unless your doctor sees some cause for concern.

When you're taking OCs, your period is actually caused by a hormonal withdrawal, the tablets for that week don't contain any active ingredients, thus, by missing several pills, you caused your period to start then and by restarting with a new pack, you've just thrown your hormonal balance off a bit and it will take a few weeks for things to settle back down.

Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, PMS like symptoms, bloating and weight gain.

I'm great now thank you:)! puts my mind at ease a bit so just to double check if I pretty much did miss my period with the last pack I just finished it's normal?Also no nausea just a bit of a weak stomach I'd say.

Hi, I've been taking lo loestrin Fe for a while now and I'm really good at taking my pills regularly. However, this past week has been a mess. I had to fill my prescription on Monday but I was supposed to take a pill on Sunday night. So I took it as soon as I got my refill. Then I somehow missed Monday night, Tuesday night, and last night. I woke up, realized that I forgot and freaked out. I took the three pills. Then I read that if you miss three or more pills you must start a new pack. What does that mean? I already took the three I missed. If I were to start a new pack would I start on the first Thursday? (Today) help!!

You don't necessarily have to start a new pack, you can continue with the one, but you need to be aware that you won't be protected from pregnancy, until you take 7 days of active pills, consecutively, without missing any. Thus, you'd need to abstain or use a backup method of protection, until the 8th day.

If you have a smart phone, then I recommend getting a prescription reminder app. Many are free, I use one on my iPhone and my fiancé has one on his Android, they can be set to nag, until you take your medication, so it would help avoid this situation in the future.
