Getting Shorted On Pain Meds From Pharmacy

Updated

I would like some opinions on this. I am a 20 yr chronic pain patient, who has an excellent trusting relationship with my doctor. I am only to use one pharmacy of course and over all they are great. On one of my pain meds I have been shorted several times over the past few months. One time it was 20, which I went back and told them to recount the inventory as of the shortage, or I may need to file a police report. They took care of that one. The others have been 5 or under, and I did not say anything, as I want to stay on good terms with them. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Hello, Jobe! How are you? I had the same problem once, years ago and it was later discovered that someone was pocketing the missing pills to feed their own addiction.

Under U.S. law, you should be getting your full prescribed amount, unless it exceeds DEA recommended limits.

I do, however, have an idea, if it were me, I'd play stupid the next time I had one filled. I'd tell them that I've been running short and I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, such as maybe forgetting that I already took a dose, or whatever and ask them to count the pills with me to be sure, because if I'm having a memory issue, I need to speak to my doctor about it…

I'm sure you see where I'm going with this… there's no accusing being done, but if there is a problem, it will alert them to it.

Hi, I have been on Norco 10/325 for 15 years. I never had a problem, 2 times I was given 10 and 4 extra, both times I returned them. This time I was 18 short of 180 (162). I went to the pharmacy and they said they gave me 180. I told my doctor that I have went to for 20 years and he knows I'm honest. He made the next prescription 3 days early, but the pharmacy said only 2 days early. My question is, is it okay to count them at the pharmacy where they can see me? What would you do if that happened to you? Thanks for any replies.
