Generic Sedapap
UpdatedI take generic sedapap with butalbital 50mg and 650mg acetaminophen. Last time I received my insurance company's mail away pharmacy filled script, it was filled with 325mg of acetaminophen. My charge card on file was charged 4 times what I previously paid at the previous acetaminophen dosage, I called them & the pharmacist told me it is no longer made at 650mg (ok, I get it: acetaminophen & liver damage potential), and dose change & patent increased cost (but my bottle was labeled generic & rx identifier verified it was generic). 325mg is non-formulary (they probably didn't anticipate change to 325mg when developed annual formulary).
Pharm called MD for order change (but didn't get order for refills & he canceled the 650mg order - including the refills). I can not find anything on the internet that confirms 650mg was discontinued & my MD states it is not. I have a physician appt in 2 days & I am concerned I will have a repeat of events. Of course I appreciate 325mg (I do not take any other meds with acetaminophen) as "they" are now recommending 3000mg daily max instead of the previous 4,000 max daily acetaminophen intake (if I have my facts correct), but the higher copay is problematic. Other than risking a repeat of the mail away pharmacy handling of the script - resulting in 4 times the copay (for someone that takes 1 tab every 4 hrs for headache, resulting in 2-3 tabs per week so no concern with acetaminophen intake, do you have any suggestions on how to handle to get the desirable outcome? And my local pharmacy is not an option as my insurance will not pay for even 30 days of a non-acute med such as an antibiotic. Thanks!

The information you were given about the higher dose no longer being available is correct. Perhaps your doctor missed seeing the notice from the FDA, but it is available on their site if he looks for it. All combination prescription medications that combined Acetaminophen with one or more other drug have been lowered to contain no more than a maximum of 325mgs per dose.
Is there anything else I can help with?
