Generic Percocet Differences

Updated

I used to take Watson percocet 10/325, until it was bought over by Activis. I have since been on Malinkridot (sp); which is not as effective, but ok. Now all of a sudden Ive been told that the only generic they will use/order is by Rhodes.... I cannot find any information on that brand, or why the change. i assume it is because of cost, but any information would be much appreciated. I am very sensitive to dyes, and gluten, and certain fillers. I would like to know who owns the Rhodes brand, and if Malinkridot is still being made? Also, how they compare as far as effectiveness. Thank you.

Hello, Sestra! How are you?

The Rhodes brand is own by Rhodes Pharmaceuticals and it is normal for a pharmacy to change which generic they stock, depending on who was offering the cheapest price at the time they needed to restock their supply.

If you can post back with the specific markings on them, I can check the inactive ingredients for you.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

There haven't been a lot of complaints about their products, so far and yes, Mallinckrodt is still being manufactured.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Thank you for your response. This is my second day on them, and i can already tell they are not working, just like activis did not work for me, after they changed the Watson formulation. I had a small independent pharmacy that regularly stocked the Malinkridot brand, and i chose that over Activas. The pharmacy owner sold the stire to CVS w/10 days notice to patients, and staff. One of the pharmacists hand carried a couple files to another independent pharmacy in an effort to help,, because of my many sensitivities, and they deliver. Long story shorter; I transfered the pain meds from the previous independent, as well as all of my other scripts I had at Wal-Mart. In the begining they seemed most helpful, and now I'm having difficulty. The first change w/ Watson, required me to increase dosage from 3-4 day/24hrs, which was still not as effective, but was getting by-just. I was told to work w a specific pharmacy, pharmacist, and that one staff from previous pharm would be there, who knew me. Anyway, apparently the boss/owner has to be called, and then the distributor, for approval, and or info on what generics they are able to get.? They have helped w a few that at walmart i just left alone, and dealt with, however, this is one of the most important meds that i need to work, w effectivness, and without reactions. The first night i took one my cheeks, chin, and chest broke out. Like others Im stuck w this, and the other option is worse. I took/take benadryl. So, i do not want to be "high maintenance", but they said that it was not available, and could not be ordered anymore, as they had 2x, but at the last minute, getting it barely the day before. This month i called early enough for them to be able to order it, have it in stock, as they are closed on the weekends now, for a hopeful Mon delivery... Not to mention that not everyone understands a day sooner when there are 31 days in a month. I did offer to pay the difference, if it was more expensive than the other "cheap" one. Didn't say cheap lol. My gut is that they drew the line on accommodating me, or it's because it is This medication.?. I am extremely careful w my medications, and try to take the least amount possible at all times, never more than prescribed. They know about me, but the new pharmacy doesn't really know me. I am so grateful, and appreciative of all they do, w/letting me try certain generics, if I've had a reaction, or have be been on the same one for 20yrs etc... It is definitely more workghost having added all my reg meds together, and transferring all of that to them, but I really need to not have a prob w/ this one, and I am. So, I am glad to know that Malinkridot is still being made! Their maybe even another generic that works more effectively than Activas, Qualitest, or Rhodes; which is the one I just got, w/ it not working, and the reaction. I was told the distributor could not get it. Why all of a sudden, idk. Also mentioned was that they cannot double up to have it in stock.?. I said, no I'm just calling w a reminder 5 days before to order it, so that it can be filled, because the previous month it was not in stock the last day of my medication. If you get a sense of, it's just not something they want to deal w/, or if they truly may not be able to get it.?. I would appreciate feedback on that also. It's the whole reason I went to "This" independent pharmacy!!! So, the pill I have this month is small/med round, and rounded on top & bottom, white, one side RP, and the other side says 10, w/ 325 underneath, It is hard, and very difficult to break in half, but if one doesn't work, then half is a waste. I had gotten into the habit if breaking the Malinkridot in half, and gradually increasing as needed, w/in my prescription parameters. This new pill is made by Rhodes.

So very sorry for the complete novel! I think I've covered everything twice. Lol. Any, and all advice is welcome. I don't like that it's this medication, and I know the Malinkridot brand, at least in the past, was one of the less expensive options, so why all the hoop-la... ps It ooi s 5:30 am here, and I am still awake. Today was an infusion day for me, and I always crash/go to sleep w/in an hour after my nurse leaves after 7-8hrs. Having taken the maximum Rhodes as well, as 3 IV Benadryl doses, and one orally later.... I am shocked that I'm still up-another symptom, as nonnew meds introduced! Peace out. Good night I hope. ;-) I look forward to your response/advice, and I appreciate your time!!! I have an old phone, and no computer, hence the request 4 help. Thank you!!!

Hi,
never recieved a reply from my novel lol, but so far it seems no one can get the Malinkridot brand... it is down to Activis, Rhodes, or Alvogen-none of which are as effective. In addition, I broke out on my face, chin, and chest w the Rhodes, prob the better of the three. Help, don't know what to do.

So you felt the rhodes was most effective for the pain? Other than making you break out? :) I have to choose today between Rhodes, Amneal, and activas. TIA!
