Can Gabapentin cause a rapid pulse? Usually my pulse is 60-70 at rest, now it's up to 85-105 at rest.

Yes, it does sound very similar. My eyes were blurry at first too. And yes the facial burning isn't handled by anything, not even Lyrica. I wish you the best and hope for us both a cute is found one day.

Yes, at first I didn't know it was the Gabapentin and I saw two different heart doctors. When my neurologist put me in the highest dose: 800 mg/4x/day, It caused a rapid heart beat (90-110), an irregular heartbeat (>60/min), high blood pressure 145/95, shaking/tremors of my hands, highly emotional responses to everything, difficulty remembering words, a spaced-it feeling like my brain was floating just above my head, diarrhea, weakness in my muscles, and my body did not "get used to" any of that. So I ended up taking four 1/2 doses throughout the day and one loading dose (whole) at night. My heart beat is back down to 65-80, my BP is down to 110/65, my cognitive functions are great, no tremors or weakness, no irregular beats, feeling so much better. This takes care of the severe shooting and some of the severe burning pain in my feet, but it does not take care of the burning in my legs/arms/hands/and face throughout the day. But I would rather deal with that than have my heart too fast/too high.

I was put on 800 4x/day two weeks ago and my heart rate is at 110 throughout the day but up to 148 if I do anything. However, my BP actually drops lower. Very strange. But now I'm on the higher dose I've experienced clumsiness, tripping, anxiety/overly emotional as well as the high heart rate. Sounds similar to your experience, Jen. The pain is handled but the burning in my face isn't still.

My eyes are very blurry with 400 mg 4 x day and now I'm on 800 mg 4 x day. My heart rate was 110 yesterday. No nausea but weight loss.

I recently had a Holter monitor study done and it noted increased heart rate during the night ... as high as 136.. it was 78 during the day.. I take Neurontin and a small dose of Seroquel at bedtime. and was wondering if either could be the cause

I also have increased heart rate, feel anxious, can't hardly get to sleep. Once I do I'm really out. Wake up and heart rate is high.
Most always over or around 100. Thats resting. I'm on 1500 mg. a day.
I also take meds for high blood pressure. My sister died of a stroke at 56, because of high blood pressure. I'm freaking out now. I go to doc. in four days. Hope I make it
Also have indigestion and uncomfortable feeling in chest and back on left side.

This is also my second time taking gabapentin, I used to not be able to tolerate it during the day and could only take at bedtime, but I'm starting to think that maybe the amount I'm on is just too much. I take it three times a day and seems like my rapid heart beat got worse when it increased to 400mg 3 times a day. Plus I've never had high blood pressure until about six months or so ago, I'm starting to get a little worried. I don't like the feelings I've been having lately. I start feeling like my heart is racing out of my chest and I feel like I'm smothering. I am also 50 and in menopause so I'm going to request my hormone levels checked too. I don't know why it would be that though, cause I had a complete hysterectomy in 2001... I went right into menopause then! Anyway maybe we can get some help, I wish you the best.

I also take Xanax for anxiety, no problem with it. I believe that gabapentin causes dementia and I think I've even read that it does cause memory loss. My doctor doesn't want me to decrease the gabapentin because he says it has helped my back pain, but my lower back pain is as bad as ever! I think I should start decreasing the gabapentin, and start by just cutting one of the three out a day. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it and I hope you improve.

I have been taking gabapentin for about 5 months and this is my second time taking it (I took it for quite a few months last year. I didn't really notice an increased heart rate then but I guess I wasn't paying much attention and it wasn't effecting me if it was. I do however have increased heart rate now. The doctor didn't really seem concerned until just recently when I was going to be having surgery for a herniated disk (which is why I've been taking it). Its weird because by blood pressure is fine. The doctor put me on something to slow down my heart rate for the sake of surgery but I have just recently finished it and I'm noticing the increased heart rate again. Its not too bad resting but when I'm moving it is higher than it should be. I go back and see the surgeon in about a week for a follow up and I still have a little nerve pain but not too much so I'm hoping I can start slowly coming off it. Hopefully that will fix my problem. I was getting concerned as I was looking at side effects of the that medication and not seeing increased heart rate but seeing that other people have had that problem after taking it makes me feel better. I hope yours gets better!

It seems like my rapid heart beat got worse after my dosage got raised from 300mg 3 times a day to 400mg 3 times a day. I take a pill for the rapid heart beat called "nadolol",but all of that has worsened just recently and it doesn't seem to get worse until after I take my first dose at 11:00a.m.I am getting a little worried because I also have recently developed high blood pressure.

My HR is high 100 - 117, been taking 1800 mg Gabapentin for about nine months. Started looking to see if it is causing problems. The answer is YES! I thought I might need Testosterone, even Cialis at 10 mg is not working. Now I see it may be causing my rapid heart beat, was wondering if I have heart problems. Not happy with my dr, wants me to stop taking Xanax for panic anxiety. He said it's addicting, now he says it might cause dementia. I think he has dementia. Been taking xanax for 30 years and I have no decreased mental capacity. I know, I'm working on my second Masters Degree right now and having fun with it!!!

This is my 5th day on gabapentin 200 mg at bedtime. I am also taking Sotalol 40 mg nightly for rapid heart rate (110 bpm at rest) for six months now. Since taking gabapentin my heart rate is 138 whn I'm walking'' My balance is off and I'm experiencing ""charlie horse" type cramping in my back' just above my kidneys. I sleep 2 hours longer and seemingly dream the entire time. I believe its time for the drug manufacturer to list rapid heart rate as a side effect, and after reading all the comments about the side effects, I think its time to stop taking it.

My friend was taking Gabapentin for his hip pain. After taking this medication for over a month he had swelling in his feet and legs. He also developed a cough. When he went to his Dr. He had to be sent to the ER at a hospital because his heat rate was over 150+ and an abnormal EKG. He was in Atrial Flutter ( this is where the Atria of the heart quivers). He had to have a cardiac ablation. I can't say for certain that taking this drug made this happen but I will say that up until now he has not had that issue.

Best of Luck to you! You have to really research everything and be diligent in ensuring that your Doctor hears you!

You must be the caretaker of your body!

Listen to it.

Thanks.

Just an update on my original post. My HR is no longer elevated, or if it is, it is minimal. I think it was the norco and ibuprofen that were elevating it. I started at 100mg and am up to 1400mg.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with gabapentin and GERD. I've noticed some of the same stomach issues that you describe. I'm trying to half my dose of 300 mg by emptying the capsule of half the powder. I also take a miniscule amount of clonazepam. I have gone down from one .5 mg to a half of a .25 mg, so that battle has almost ended! Propanolol has helped with my anxiety at night and the fluttering heart. Good luck to you all. Best wishes!

I've been working my way up from 100mg ever day. So today is Day 3 and I'm at 300 mg. I’m feeling better with 300mg in my system today but my heart rate has been around 97 in bed for a couple days in a row and that’s apparently a common side effect. Anxiety is also a side effect — maybe that’s normal when your heart is racing. A few days ago it was only 78bpm. I think I was on 100mg then. I haven’t taken any Norco today and my pain is definitely better with 300 than 200 so I’m experimenting to see if the anxiety is lower without the Norco. I’m also super tired but that’s par for the course. I'm taking it for a torn acetabular labrum/ possible CRPS, coldness and numbness slightly, more in the injured leg.
I’m curious about natural alternatives.

Weird. I was prescribed gabapentin a few months ago for pain in scar tissue and pinched nerve from surgery. It's helping but now I have burning mouth syndrome! So I was taking 300 mg twice a day and went down to once a day because I also get fluttery heart. Never had bms before. Never even heard of it. I tried gargling with Epsom salts and stopped drinking coffee. Good luck to you with the bms. It's very uncomfortable.

I have been taking 1200 mg gabapentin for pain and restless legs for a few weeks now and for the last two nights I have awaken with numb, tingly arms and a racing heart. It seems to go away in a few minutes but it is a frightening experience.
