Gabapentin Dosage

Updated

I'd like to discuss with someone about the proper dosage of this medication. Can anyone help?

There is really no set dosage for this, though you do need to start at a low dosage and gradually add more until you find the amount that works effectively for you. Most doctors will start with 100mgs taken 2 to 3 times a day, then go up to 300 and continue adding until they find what works for each patient. It would take a tremendous amount to OD on this, which is why so many doctors like to use it, they can take the dosage very high, without danger and it has very few side effects.

Your best bet then, is to take your doctors advice on what you should be taking and how often.

I just started gabapentin. My doctor told me to take 300 mg before bedtime for the first week and then move up to one every 12 hours and the next week do one every 8 hours. However, it is making me a little droggy, so I might just do the 300 mg at night time for a while and see how that goes. She said that if I felt like it was too much medicine, I could cut back. I'm real sensitive to meds.

My doctor started me off at 100 mg's 3 x's per day, then 300 mg's 3 x's, then 600 3 x's and now 800 3 x's a day. I was in terrible accident causing broken bones, several surgeries, extensive nerve damage ect..But of all the medications I've been on and with the honestly of physicians as far as possible addiction and withdrawals my family physician never mentioned this about Gabapentin (Neurotin). For me it's is ten times worse than Vicodin or percocet. I wish my doc wouldn't not of bumped me to such a high does so quickly without understanding that.

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I can't imagine taking more than 200mg a day. Even this small dosage makes me feel like a zombie. Not going to take it much longer. Every med has a side effect and the more drugs you take the more weird and more unidentified side effects you have. Sorry, if taking more pills at my age makes me less functional I would rather not be here. Only ones that benefit are the drug companies, insurance companies, pharmacies and the doctors. Oh...I forgot politicians!
