Oxycodone For Shingles Pain And I Am New To This Drug

I have been prescribed oxycodone 5 mg. IMM REL capsules to be taken 2-3 every 4 hrs. for shingles pain. I have never taken this before, however I have chronic pain due to a right hip injury 6 years ago and normally take fiorinal #3 for that and also migraine headaches. I am in a'lot of pain and I am praying this med. will help. I was also prescribed lyrica 75 mg, Valtrex and I already take lexapro and zanax if needed. I am very cautious with medicine. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Oxycodone is a very potent narcotic pain reliever, it is also highly addictive. The IMM REL stands for Immediate Release, which means the medication is released immediately to start helping with your pain, rather than taking 15 to 20 minutes like regular release tablets.

Aside from the addictive properties, this drug can also cause side effects such as: drowsiness, nausea, constipation and dry mouth.

Oxycodone is a great pain reliever. But once you start it, even if for more than a month or so, be prepared to either keep taking it forever or stop after a month or so. I took it for 5 years. But in rehab, I was given a drug called suboxone. It completely stops withdrawals, in a matter of minutes.

Ive been on Hydrocodone for years. I’ve learned how to control the side affects. Also, I NEVER take the full prescription in fear of addiction but in reality it keeps my pain under control enough I don’t need it. Everyone is different. Good luck
