My son was on Strattera for ADHD & we had good results until a month ago. His doctor is now placing him on Foculin. I am looking for information concerning those who have been on Foculin and improvements/detriments they have found

My daughter was recently given a perscription for Strattera and Foculin. My insurance company will not authorize the persciption because she is only 4. They want to wait until she is 5. I am going to pay for one of them out of my own pocket. Does anyone have any advice which one has the best results? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am an ADD Adult, I have 2 add children out of 4, What I know is a child must understand why they don't seem normal. Maintain Eye contact and repeat over and over what your are trying to say until they get it! Once they get it, verify if they understand they are looking at you and off in another world. Now they are aware of whats different in their life! Whats important here is the patient needs to see the difference on and off the medication, not the parents so much. The patient or child has an observer that is able to point out the problem at the time it happens, a pattern of checks and balances can be learned by the add patient. Now if its a struggle, the Meds can be administered and judged by the patient. I know that if the patient does not know why they are different over others, they WILL rebel even if the medication is working! I wish doctors would stop medicating patients until the patient says they need help. The same thing is true when someone wants to stop drinking, or smoking, etc. I have a daugher that flunked out of high school now studying the field of medicine, and one child not medicated yet, but understands sometimes a bit too late why he ticks of others. But he still wants to try fixing it without medicine. Once it interferes with his life, I'm sure he will try meds. My daughter and I are on meds and thats why her course of study is soaring and also why I've held down my current job over 14 years. Ritalyn products work, and this foculin xr seems to be work better, but still trying to find the right dose to see if I will swich. Dont blame the medicine, be sure patient knows what they are treating!

Focalin contains the active ingredient Dexmethylphenidate, is commonly used to treat ADHD, and narcolepsy.

Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, insomnia, and nervousness.

Wendy, which does her doctor feel would be the best choice?
