Looking for a doctor who will prescribe methadone in the Charlotte, nc area. I have real pain due to a car accident back in 2000 when I broke my pelvis. I moved from Jersey to Nc and got the pain meds off of someone else and when I became pregnant I was told to go to a methadone clinic. I had no idea what I was doing or that I could easily have gone to pain management. I'm willing to drive almost anywhere within reason for a doctor who can give me methadone. I've tried subutex and suboxone but neither work. Please help

Unfortunately, if you have gone to a Methadone clinic in the past, then that is in your medical records and a regular doctor will not be able to prescribe it for you. Whether you need it for pain or not, your prior addiction treatment is what will restrict them from doing so.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that may help?

I was afraid tof that. I was totally naive to what I was getting into. Now that I can't afford $40 per day(gas and methadone) I'm stuck. I'm hoping to get a job ASAP BC nothing else helps. Any suggestions will be appreciated. I've heard of doctors who will prescribe it for $200-$500 per month. A lot cheaper than the $1200+ I was spending. The one problem is my husband. All I need is for him to pay until I'm not sick and can work.

I have been reading through a lot of forums about doctors prescribing methadone. I am in need of a Doctor that will prescribe it monthly. The pills not the Liquid. It is completely for pain management. I have X-rays and other reports that u mentioned n ur post. I know I'm not the person from earlier, but I was wondering if u could lend me the information of the Doctor please and thank u!!

Jusanna, your medical records from your previous dr must show that you have a medical reason that causes pain severe enough that a dr might prescribe you Methadone. There are no guarantees what a dr will and won't prescribed. But, if you have been to a Methadone Clinic, you won''t be able to find a dr that will manage your pain because you have a medical hostory of being treated for drug addiction.

BL,

Thank you very much for ur reply! I was excited to open my email this morning and see I actually had one! I honestly didn't expect anyone to reply. I have seen you post in other forums and you are VERY informative. U have also been helpful in giving me some ideas. Now on to your reply, not only do I have the CAT scans/XRays, but I also have the medical records and extensive documentation as to why this would be a good thing for me. Chronic pain is something that has been in my life for 15 years of I remember correctly when I was diagnosed with thoracic scoliosis, cervical stenosis/lordosis. Then a few years later atherosclerosis in my spine. I started freaking out and went into complete and TOTAL denial!!! There was no way and no how this was happening to me!! I was 25/26 years old, husband just left us, single mom of 2, no job, homeless; WTF was I gonna do! I refused to hear any of that. So what my life was at the time, And as BAD as I hurt n the morning, through the day, at night; I HAD to work and get back on my feet!!! So I did nothing, absolutely nothing about it. EXCEPT make it worse and add more problems through the years. I don't think this is related at ALL(some may disagree this being a "chronic" issue), but I also suffer from Chronic Migraines. I also for the past 6 years have been fighting some chronic auto immune disorder. It mimics scleroderma, it comes up in every test we run, but for sum unknown reason by God, they won't diagnose it. Lol. So they have slapped the title of "Severe Fibromyalgia" on me & atherosclerosis of the spine. I also suffer from neuropathy n my hands, feet, and legs. Why?!?!? I don't KNOW!! I am so aggravated cuz I DONT have a direct diagnoses, I don't have ANY pain management EXCEPT for ALOT and LOTS of prayer after I take 4 ibuprofen and 2 Tylenol!! Lol! I am TIRED of being tired and tired of being in pain!! I just need that physician n NC so I CAN improve my quality of life, start LIVING my life again, and KEEP UP WITH MY KIDS/BE MORE OF A MOM TO MY KIDS!!! It's still just me and the kids, they NEED me... PS. No I have NEVER been to a Methadone clinic. Heard about this certain treatment from a friend of mine. Actually a osteopathic Doctor friend of mine.

Jusanna, Methadone isn't a drug that everyone can take nor is it the first drug that drs prescribe for chronic severe pain. From what I've read, it can be extremely difficult to get off of when you've been taking it for a while. They are going to be reviewing the use of Methadone to treat chronic pain soon. So some drs may be reluctant to prescribe it for chronic pain in the near future. It is best to let a dr decide how they want to begin to manage your pain and go from there.

Depending on how recent your diagnostic results are, a new dr may want you to have updated evaluations. It is possible that the Neuropathy in your hands, feet and legs could stem from back issues. Have you had a recent MRI and EMG done ? By recent I mean in the past 1-2 years ? Most of the recent medical info on fibro does Not recommend it be treated with opiates. Are you currently seeing regular drs for your health issues ? The way chronic pain is treated has changed drastically over the past 15 years.

I'm not sure if you have even been on opiates for your chronic pain or not. But, as I said before there are no guarantees that any other dr will treat your chronic pain like another dr did or said that it should be treated. If you haven't taken opiates long term, you aren't going to find any dr that will prescribe it in the beginning or maybe at all. You need to ask your doctor friend if he can recommend a pain dr that prescribes Methadone. Although that's no guarantee that you will be prescribed it. Sorry I can't be of more help.
