False Negative Drug Test

Updated

I take oxycontin 20 2x daily,1 phentermine, mobic, xanax (on occassion) wellbutrin and hydrocodone 4x daily. I take all my medications just as.prescribed but the last 2 time j have gone in to see my doctor and taken my udt I have come pack positive for everything except my hydrocone. Why would I be getting a false positive result for this if I take every day as prescribed? Dr is now making accusations that I am selling or giving away my pain meds. All of my other udt in the past year have come back great

My very responsible daughter takes carisoprodol and lorazepam. The last 4 out of 5 drug screens have come back negative. The doctor has accused her of selling her medications and will not prescribe her medications as a result. Not can I help clear this up or any advocate help from this wanna be, bozo doctor. We want to seek legal counsel to go after the lab and the bozo. There are two issues the way I see it. 1. Patient abandonment and 2. Whatever legal principal that would apply to this thoroughly incompetent lab. Any legitimate response from a weigher inner would be appreciated. Thank you.

The following excerpt is quoted from the American Academy of Pain Medicine:

"Pharmocogenetic variability is common and often causes abnormal UDT results. In fact, approximately 7–10% of the Caucasian population lacks an active cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) oxidizing enzyme, and thus are unable to metabolize codeine to morphine. Thus, in a patient taking codeine as prescribed, UDT would reveal codeine but not the morphine metabolite. Drug–drug interactions may also significantly impact UDT results. For example, codeine is metabolized via cytochrome P450 2D6 primarily to morphine. Metabolism of codeine can be inhibited by P450 2D6 inhibitors, such as paroxetine (Paxil®) or bupropion (Wellbutrin®), and thus UDT results may be negative for morphine in the presence of paroxetine or bupropion. False positive or false-negative results are most commonly problematic with point of care immunoassay testing."

I believe it it has something to do with the way the drug is broken down I have recently had a very similar situation regarding oral swab versus urine one at my methadone program the other in pain management for some reason the oral swabs come back positive for the methadone but negative for my Opana and dilaudid so I have been doing a lot of research you can go online and try to look up the metabolic breakdown process of your drug if memory serves me it breaks down into a different substance and may not show up as the original substance taken also I have called a few of the oral swab people and made complaints to which I received answers that it could be possible in certain instances they would need to see my complete medical records and that if the issue persists I should see an attorney being that the methadone program refuses to take a urine and is making this judgment based on a swab. I also suggest incomplete or improper testing collection so if you are willing to give the sample by another means there is something wrong with the facility or doctor who refuses to accept it. I was told my problem could lay in the fact that indicator window in my swab should be fully change to whatever the color is in my case blue for the entire length of the indicator band I usually take it out of my mouth and hand it in as soon as I see tiny little blue for the simple reason that I gag and sometimes bile get into my mouth while taking the test so do some research for me I found out that having little to no saliva in the mouth impacts the test as I use Biotene and all manner of mints for other ways to moisten my mouth at the time of the test this to could interfere with results because the test is absorbing the fluids from that substance and not my actual saliva. I am sure if you do the research for urine you will find similar situations I know that certain antibiotics can render a test negative so obtaining this information Told Me 2 days I hope it helps

Re: Momo (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I am having the same problem too. I have personally worked in the lab. You need to look up everything she is on and see if any of the medications are blocking the metabolite that should be left over. I noticed that three of the medications that I take on top of my oxycodone and my Butrans patch does not cross over the blood-brain barrier. But my blood pressure medication and my antidepressants are blocking the metabolite from showing up in my urine. I am actually going to call the hospital where my test was performed. I was kicked off my pain management plan as I was accused of flushing or selling my drugs. I have a very bad spinal disease that dishes out horrible pain. Along with the host of other things. But you need to look up if any other drugs she is taking along with over-the-counter vitamins or supplements may be blocking that metabolite. Because oxycodone breaks down into Oxymorphone. And depending on what the machine at the lab is calibrated at, If you have a low amount in your urine and it's below the calibrated number it's going to spit out that it's negative in your urine when in fact if they put it through a mass spectrometer, it would show traces of the drug. A drug screen at hospital cost approximately five dollars. If you ask me I think it's a government conspiracy considering the crackdown from the DEA. This is a way to get patient off of opiates. And to those that are abusing their drugs, you are making it virtually impossible for someone like me or others that are suffering from debilitating diseases to get the correct treatment. I will be totally off of my pain plan within one week. I am expected to go off this cold turkey with no help. The chances of me dying from a heart attack or a stroke are pretty high. So to those that are abusing it, you need to stop. Because you were making the rest of us suffer. And my husband, should I pass away from all of this, is going to be going after a lot of people for wrongful death. I've had three children and that doesn't compare to the pain that this disease causes. I have neuropathy throughout my entire body. And you better believe I am going to fight this. To be treated like a common criminal, after giving 8 1/2 years of my life to working in the trauma center it's pretty insulting. But do your homework folks. And yes doctors don't like it when you do that -well that's just too bad. They took an oath to do no harm. So I am going to ask for a meeting with the board of ethics - this is against hypocritical oath! Because this is going to cause me a lot of harm.
