BL Says:

If your mother takes more than 1,000 mg of Tylenol in a six hour period or more than 3,000 mg Tylenol in a 24 hour period, your mother needs to see her dr ASAP.

@thomas,

Sorry to hear about your mother's challenges. I have to say I've never heard of anyone abusing Tylenol in such a manner before. Especially considering how ineffective and dangerous it could be in higher doses when comparing it to other options. BL is right though that she probably needs to see her doctor as soon as possible if she's really in that kind of pain. Another thing I'd also encourage is to research some safer over the counter alternatives (such as Turmeric/Curcumin which is regarded for its potent anti-inflammatory effects). You're probably not going to find anything that looks identical to the pill she's taking, but if you can at least convince her to give something else a chance that doesn't harm her liver I think that would be a step in the right direction. Maybe showing her a printout from NIH.gov on the risks of her habits would help bring light to seriousness of the situation at hand.

Thomas... did you ever find a placebo for the Tylenol. I have the same problem with my own mother. I'm trying to find a placebo to give her in place of the tylenol.
