We spent 3-1/2 weeks in Egypt in September. After the first few days we started to have queasy stomachs and my husband had diarrhea for 3 days. Immodium didn't help him, although Pepto Bismol did calm my stomach a bit. A pharmacist in Aswan recommended Drotazide and it worked wonders. We took it 3 times a day for a couple of days to clear things up. Then once a day as a preventative measure and our stomachs were fine for the rest of the trip. Drotazide is over the counter in Egypt. Buy it and take a tablet once a day as soon as you can. Taking it, we were able to eat fresh fruit and use ice cubes with no bad consequences. Sharm's a great place. Have fun!

Drotazide contains Drotaverine and Nifuroxazide, it is listed as a medication to relieve gastro-intestinal issues.

Since this is not available in the US, I don't have any other information on it.

Have you tried asking your doctor if they recommend anything?

Some people do fine with OTC products such as Immodium and Diphenyhydramine, but there are others who need stronger remedies.

Does anyone else have more information?
