Dr Who Perscribes Narcotics In Wv

Updated

I just moved to Wheeling, WV and was wondering if someone knew a dr that's can prescribe opioids for pain management? I am currently taking nucynta and tramadol and would like to stick with what works.

Hello, Jescakin! How are you?

All doctors have to be cautious about prescribing such medications, now, if not, they risk losing their license to practice medicine, as well as fines and jail time. They are restricted in what they can prescribe, how much they can prescribe and any they can prescribe it.

Do you currently have a PCP that could refer you to someone? If so, that would most likely be the easiest way to find the help you need.

Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area?

Hi well I got my dr in MI working on a referral for a pain clinic for me. I was denied as a patient by 4 offices, the last one told me why. They don't treat chronic pain you have to go to a pain clinic. It's crazy how do u get a referral if u can't get a dr without lying? At least my previous dr is awesome!

It isn't that you need to lie, you just can't ask for specific medications to avoid being labeled as a drug seeker and, as you've become aware of, you need to be prepared to be referred to a pain management specialist.

I wish you luck getting the help you need.

Please post back and keep me updated!

Are there any other questions or concerns?

Have your primary dr send you to the pain center. I go to the one in Weirton. It's at Weirton medical center. They will give you trigger point injections, blocks, and medication. I'm sure they will look at what your already taking and what you've previously been on. Of course with any dr it takes time to find what works and what doesn't. An example with me is I know that there are people who take higher amounts of Percocet , but with me they never went higher than 10/325 4x a day. They added other meds with it instead of giving me a higher dosage of it. This is done for the benefit of my health. It's the only thing that I feel has helped my most without side effects, but to much is bad for your organs. I'm 38 and have had rheumatory arthritis and back problems since I was 14. I've had to failed back surgeries. I'm in a lot of pain and have refused many medications that would probably help me, but I have a toddler and won't take anything that would mess with my head. Years ago they tried methadone, but I would pass out. I actually dozed off and woke up pouring pop on my carpet. Yes it worked but I couldn't function. When trying something new with terrible side effects I usually try to give it a few weeks. One pain pill made me nauseas with bad headaches. If it's not gone within a couple of weeks I move on to something else. What I'm on now isn't helping as much as I'd like, but I've finally come to realize that I'm never going to be pain free. I would be happy at a 3-4 out of 10 on the pain scale. The pain has caused me to be extremely depressed. I just want to be able to do stuff with my son and husband. I just want to do everyday things like most people. Cleaning the house is difficult for me. Taking my son grocery shopping about kills me because it's hard to pick him up. I just had an appt a few days ago. I have three choices. 1) 3rd surgery at L4-L5, L5-S1. 2) a pain pump 3) a spinal cord stimulator. I chose the spinal cord stimulator. I'm currently on exalgo 16 and Percocet 7.5 3x a day. Unfortunately it's not helping the pain much. It's embarrassing being on something as strong as exalgo and telling the dr it's not really doing much. I'm not sure about pain drs in wheeling, but I go to Dr Roig in Weirton and I think he's a great Dr.
