I am on disability for chronic back pain and degenerative disk disease, in the past I have been on 80 mil oxicontin for about eight years, but have not been on any medications in the past year. I am now at the point of needing pain meds again.

Hello, Stan! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in pain.

If you require such a medication on a long-term ongoing basis, you'll need to see a pain management specialist.

Do you currently have a PCP that you see regularly?

If so, asking them to refer you to someone would most likely be the quickest and easiest way to get the help you need.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

There are no new regulations that state that only a Pain Dr can treat you for this. Although, it is preferred, it is not Law.

I know it's a bit of a travel....but I know for a fact that in Saint James MO there is a doctor's office with several Doctors and they don't pass judgement and just helps you. Bring your MRI' s and and records of your injury. I'm sorry but I just can't remember the name of the Doctors Office but St. James is a very small town and its right three on main street it a pretty big place and Has its own pharmacy on the side of the building.and its a brick building. You could probably look it with no problem in the phone book. I and several of my friends and even my husband and we all never left disappointed. So it'll be worth your trip. I hope you get some pain relief from this witch I know you will. Lol I used to live in NO but moved to OK 9 years ago and thankfully I have a great pain specialist that takes good care of me and my husband here. Took us 8 years to find him but we're set now and life is so much better and I thank GOD for it. Good luck and let me know the outcome...k Peace, Beth

You are so lucky. But eight years is ridiculous to find a treating doctor. However, at least you have quality of life and respect from your doctor, which is much, much more than most chronic pain patients receive. Arizona has no pain management docs willing to to prescribe opiates or soma. They write over the counter Advil and want to give inj's. so they can bill the insurance companies over and over. And then if you complain that their treatment is not helpful they snarl in your face to find someone else. So hurtful and disrespectful.

I need help for a relative in St. Louis. This person had been given a new life with opiod medication to treat chronic pain. They never abused the medication, but because of chronic back pain, needed it in order to resume daily responsibilities. Recently, this person's pain specialist, whom they had been seeing for years, mysteriously "retired" and the doctor who took over cut down their medication to half of what they were originally prescribed. This is not sustainable. I know this is an all too familiar story for chronic pain patients b/c of the CDC regulations, but if you know of any compassionate pain management doctors who aren't afraid to prescribe opiods to chronic pain patients, I implore you to respond. Any leads on pain specialist doctors in the St. Louis/surrounding area are deeply appreciated.

Was the dr that left Dr. Smith? If so then I know how you feel. He was my dr for 20 yrs and had to retire. Now I'm seeing his partner Dr. Schmidt who is sooo cold and has done the same thing with my meds and soo quickly which he says isn't safe but does it anyway. Am drastically trying to find someone as kind as D. Smith. If you've had any luck please let me know and I will do the same.

Richard Says:

Dr. Smith of St. Louis was far too compassionate a physician to remain in practice with the highly illegal nonsense going on now nationwide. Most other pain specialists are weenies; scared as hell of being labeled as prescribing too many pain meds; even though they literally helped chronic pain patients in the past have a decent life. And forget about any concern for patients from them! You know they are embarrassed with what they are doing; otherwise they would answer your questions! It is all about their income! This is a major legal suit in the making. Get an attorney as quick as you can! This is one case where they deserve what happens to them! Wouldn't hurt to also write the President and tell him how he has been misled by the CDC and others. They are using a very important cause to justify taking a ridiculous meat axe approach to the issue of opioid abuse. He needs to know just how many law-abiding Americans are being abused by so-called pain doctors and the medical profession today!

Hi. I've been a chronic pain patient since I fell 30 feet in 1992. I have had 37 operations since, but u know after my accident they told me I would never talk right, had bleeding on the brain, I broke almost every bone but my pinky (figure of speech) but I'm trying to make this quick. I did end up buying my own bread route and ran it for 20YRS until I had a choice to stop or be in a wheelchair cause I was working on 2 artificial hips, knees, pins in ankles fused, right wrist fused, lower back, you get the point, but I've always been on fentanyl at one time up to 150mcg. Since I like to prove dr's wrong I didn't believe I was in chronic pain - OMG WORST 3 MONTHS of my life taking a 50mcg Fentanyl patch but just found out that I have lysis in my left side eating up my leg and pelvis bone and now having horrible pain. Any suggestions for breakthrough pain meds? I'm going to try this DR. BEYZER Andy from s. county (St. Louis, Mo). Anyone heard of him? He gave me 10/325 percocet. I hate them as they make me moody and don't even touch my pain. I have to talk at a rehab meeting so any help would be great. Thank you. God bless. HUGS AND KISSES.
