Detox Methods To Get Off Suboxone (Page 2)

Updated

I ,due to a severe injury, was on methadone for 8 yrs and got off that crap and on suboxone at the advice of a friend. I now am at 2 mgs of suboxone daily. My pain issues are mild to none and I want off subs .I went to my doctor who claims he has Much experience with this and has proven that to me...but his method is scaring me and from what I read online I am very hesitant. He prescribed me 2mg dilaudid and valium which I hate and plans to wean me off the subs. Is this right??? I can handle a mild w/d but not a heavy one due to my work. I am not looking for people tellin me to suck it up or give advice other than if the detox method described is reasonable or crazy?? Everytime I try to go below 2mg of subs I feel like hell will a dilaudid taper make it easier or start a new addiction and ultimate w/d??

I can't agree more with this post!! I was addicted to pain killers to the point I was ripping 6 OC 80's a day 7 days a week and it got too expensive to maintain that level so I moved to subs and have been on them for over 6 years with a tolerance and demand for four 8mg subs a day still an expensive high but a hell of a lot cheaper than the OC's. I was so terrified by all the posts I read I never even attempted to detox until last year. My first attempt was pure hell because I just jumped cold turkey, huge mistake on my part. I did not properly educate myself on the right way to do it. I spent the last 8 months reviewing site after site and watching YouTube videos of these testimonials and how to jump. Of all those that claim it's hell for weeks on end I truly don't believe they were being honest about their weening method or they for some strange reason ran thru this hell for weeks on end. Being the high dose user I was I was terrified to jump again so what I did was my own plan and here it is: get a calendar and notebook and on both write the 5 main reasons you want to stop add pictures of loved ones if that's a reason 2nd take a snapshot of those 5 reasons and make it the background on your phone 3rd mark your calendar with your step down dates it may vary from person to person but mine was to step down .25mg every 2 weeks it didn't shock my system and I had zero withdrawls fill the entire calendar with your step down dose and you will land on a date that you will have a single .25mg dose a day once you hit this bench mark your ready to jump the only stuff you will need is a bottle of multi-vitamins and some Imodium plenty of water. The first 4 days will be tough with loss of energy, your legs will feel weak and you will be a little jittery hot baths will help immensely. After day 4 you will feel like the worst is over and by day 8 you will only feel mild tiredness but nothing a cup of coffee can't cure. I am currently on day 15 and I feel amazing!! It's a long step down process but when you think of most of us and how long we've been battling this demon what's the difference. The most important thing is each and every time your to the point you want to throw the towel in and call your dealer or go to the ER or to your doctor look at your calendar or your notebook or your phone and their you will find your top 5 reason you wanted off this stuff and why just spent all that time tapering to virtually nothing and trust me the withdrawls are not even close to those mentioned this post. Oh the notebook is to write reasons and feeling during your jump phase this is helpful in filling time and keeping your mind off getting the fix. Good luck to everyone trying to jump you will be so proud of yourself once you commit and finally achieve your sobriety it's an amazing feeling to have no drugs in your system. I told my wife on my 8th day I felt like I was having an out of body experience it was almost a euphoria in a way and it was the best rush I had in years. Please just be strong and take the jump!!!

I am feeling such despair. I have been on opiates for 4 years now, using H for the past 2 years. My husband uses too. The sad thing is that we had a son. He is the blameless victim of our addiction. We both feel terrible. We have lied to our families, stolen money, have done whatever it takes to get straight when feeling sick. So tired of this life.

But the despair is clouding my thinking. I simply can not imagine what life is like without drugs. Without the sweet relief of a dose of H when you're dope sick. We have tried several times to quit. I even went to see an addiction specialist to help me/us. He gave me a prescription for suboxone. But guess what, I ended up trading them for H. How stupid!

Well, here I am, starting at square one again. My son has been with my in-laws for 4 days now, while we try to kick this nasty addiction and finally get clean. We used the first two nights, then 2 nights ago, we began our detox. We got through almost 48 hours but then broke. At hour 43, I pressured my husband into calling the dealer. Now I am sitting here facing the first couple days all over again. Sucks! I keep telling myself to get through AT LEAST the first 3 days and things will get better. I do have a few subs to help when things get really bad. I just can't picture myself getting there. Here I am, choosing to screw up my detox than be with my son. This is true agony.

I've even reading these posts, looking for help and hope. I've been I a few NA meetings, been reading the Big Book from AA. But I am still feeling despair and discouraged. Please - it does get better - doesn't it ????

It WILL get better stay strong. I am doing the same thing; detoxing. Although not from H, but oxys. I also was reading these comments from multiple sites all morning for inspiration that it will get better and for some reason i felt compelled to comment on your post. I pray for you and your family. Do this for YOU!! I look at it like this; whats a few days or even a week or two of feeling like crap when ive wasted yrs of my life high. I dont remember how it is to feel "normal" But I am gonna get there and you are too! Good Luck! GOD BLESS YOU!!

AS THIS IS A VERY COMPLEX ISSUE I WOULD SIMPLY LIKE TO SAY WITH REGARD TO SUBOXONE THAT LESS IS MORE. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DRUG HAS A CEILING EFFECT. FOR EXAMPLE, MANY PEOPLE WHO SMOKE CANNABIS KNOW THAT ONCE INTOXICATED THERE IS LITTLE BENEFIT FROM CONTINUING TO SMOKE AS THE CEILING HAS BEEN REACHED, YET PEOPLE CONTINUE TO SMOKE IRRESPECTIVE. ASK YOURSELF THIS QUESTION: WHAT DO I GET OUT OF SUBOXONE - WHAT NEED DOES IT MEET. THEN APPLY THE MINIMUM AMOUNT RULE AND WORK ON THE NEED BECAUSE THE DRUG REALLY ISN'T IN THE EQUATION. REGARDING GETTING OFF - GET DOWN TO 2.0 THRESHOLD DOSE AND TAPER FOR A FEW WEEKS THEN TAKE A BRIEF COURSE ON ANOTHER SUBSTANCE TO ASSIST OR DEAL WITH THE PSYCHOLOGICAL ISSUES YOU WILL NATURALLY FEEL DUE TO THE ABSENCE OF SUBOXONE IN YOUR LIFE AND THEN GET OFF THAT DRUG AS SOON AS YOU CAN. THE GOAL IS TO RECLAIM YOUR LIFE AND TO ADDRESS THE LIFESTYLE ISSUES THAT LED TO USING IN THE FIRST PLACE. THOUGH WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT I BELIEVE THIS TO BE TRUE. SUBOXONE IS A HIDEOUS DRUG AND DOSED AT MANY MANY TIMES ABOVE THE USUAL AMOUNT NEEDED TO ADDRESS MINOR TO MODERATE PAIN AT 0.2 AS ORIGINALLY INTENDED AND SOLD UNDER THE NAME TAMGESIC. SIMPLY PUT AS A LONG TERM TREATMENT IT IS THE GOLDEN GOOSE FOR GREEDY PROFESSIONALS AND NOT THE GOLDEN BULLET THEY PROCLAIM. PRESCRIBERS ARE NOT ABLE OR WILLING TO PUT THE NECESSARY TIME IN THAT ADDRESS THE NEED. "SO GIVE 'EM A PILL TO CONTROL 'EM AND JUST IGNORE ALL THE ISSUES OF HISTORY TOXICITY THAT THEY WILL GET RESULTING FROM TAKING A HUNDRED TIMES MORE OF THE DRUG THAN ORIGINALLY INTENDED". SURE TAKE THE MEDS IF YOU NEED THEM TO GET STABLE IN LIFE BUT THEN USE AN EXIT STRATEGY LONG TERM TO RETURN CONTROL AND FREEDOM OVER YOU OWN LIFE THROUGH RECOVERY EMPOWERMENT INSTEAD OF CHEMICAL CONTROL WITH A SMILE. I KNOW THIS IS NOT EASY BUT IT TOOK A WHILE FOR THINGS TO GET THIS WAY AND WILL TAKE EQUAL EFFORT TO REVERSE. UTILISE A COUNSELLOR AND WORK ON THE NEED SO YOU WILL BE READY TO DEAL WITH LIFE DRUG FREE OR ON MORE APPROPRIATE MEDS MORE READILY ACCEPTED, USEFUL AND AVAILABLE . AS NOTED IN POSTS ABOVE BY A FEW USERS STIGMATISED AND TREATED DIFFERENTLY EVEN WHEN THEY SHOULD BE GIVEN PAIN MEDS WE SEE A SITUATION WHERE WE ARE BASICALLY IMMUNE FROM ROUTINE DUE TO WHERE SUBOXONE LEADS US. THIS IS BECAUSE IT IS EASIER TO FOLLOW THE STATUS QUO IN THAT IT IS ILLEGAL TO PRESCRIBE TO A CONFESSED ADDICT IN HOSPITAL AS THAT MIGHT BE SEEN AS COLLUSION OR YOU MIGHT USE AGAIN AND SUE. SO IN THE END THERE ARE ONLY TWO ROADS: A DRUG ROAD OR A FREEDOM ROAD. YOU STILL HAVE A CHOICE BUT BE KIND TO YOURSELF BECAUSE RECOVERY IS HARD - ESPECIALLY WHEN WE EXPECT THINGS TO BE THE SAME AS WE CHANGE WHICH IS IMPOSSIBLE BECAUSE WE EVENTUALLY HAVE TO DEAL WITH NORMAL YET UNCOMFORTABLE LOSS TO MAKE WAY FOR A NEW WAY OF BEING. DEALING WITH THAT LAST BIT, THAT LAST DOSE - THE LOSS - THE SEPARATION ANXIETY - THE FEAR - IS PERHAPS THE HARDEST PART.

hi my name is Steve I agree with your doctor because a long-lasting opiate is much harder to detox from so what he's going to do is put you on a short acting opiate to wean you off of the long acting drug....you can go one way to get off subs but going back the other way is the tough way. Just do as he says. ...

Hi dont use another oppiate prescription w a shorter half life to kick your 2 mg suboxone habit. That's ridiculous. Instead taper your strips/pills down. First in half, than a quarter, etc. Good luck. Your doc just wants your insurance $!

People start on a to high of dose and stay on for to long. what makes your Doctor a Sub expert? 1. Attend online training. 2. Agree to have DEA review their records at any time. Most successful Doctors are honest and know little about addiction and have no desire for all the DEA bulls***. Doctors looking for income stream - Subs. Hence you need to be on them for a long time, not 7-20 days.

I have been taking 16 mg of suboxon for Three weeks and for the last 3 days I've taken 8 mg. I didn't even realize I was taken that much. I thought each pill was 2 mg. I have to get off of this stuff. I have my brother with termal cancer I take care of and my daughter with brain injury . my problem is I have no time to lay down when I get in pain from withdrawal. any suggestions

using a canned response to every question is not help. most if not all people know to see a doctor. but you also know - i think you do. that doctors have a reputation of prescribing way to much Sub to start and like the idea of using it for an extended period. that may help some but if you are sure that you are finished with drugs then a short term Sub taper is the best.

If you get tangled in the opiate web then you must come to grips with this fact. No matter what method you use there will be a period of you being uncomfortable, period, no way around it. Face it and deal with it. Subs can help but you will have to deal with the consequences of opiate use/abuse. Your mind is very powerful and can easily take a little discomfort into full blown agony. There is an end in sight and you must look at it as a challenge to get there, no matter what, failure is not an option. Lets face it, people have endured much more pain and discomfort than opiate withdrawals and survived.

Imagine telling a veteran of WW2 Battle of Bulge, he endured days on end outside in sub zero temperatures, freezing feet, hands, 24 hrs a day, spending days in cold, dirty, wet fox hole. Now add the fact of witnessing the death of friends and someone trying to kill you.
Now you tell me, how could you keep a straight face when telling someone who endured that of your troubles while huddled under a blanket watching TV. Opiate withdrawal is no fun and with short term Sub taper it is even milder but it is no way some incredible obstacle you cannot overcome. If your desire to end opiate use is as strong as the desire of soldiers trying to stay alive than it becomes just a bump in the road. The answer always lies in your mind and how you perceive things, think its hopeless than it will be, think you can overcome and you will. People are looking for answers everywhere when in fact you hold the answer "I'm I done or not"

blame your drug addiction on the government..lol. when you finally decide to take responsibility for your actions nothing will change for you. you are where you are today because of your thoughts, beliefs, actions, decisions you have made up to this point. no other rationalization will change that. people who blame others rarely accomplish much
