Crushing Intuniv (Page 2)

Updated

My son has autism and Intuniv is working good with the behavior.I really like what i'm seeing but I have to crushed it to give it to him and hide it in peanut butter, I read in the safety information that you should not crushed Intuniv, Of course I want to stop doing it, but now I don't know what to do to give it to him. There no way for him to swallow the pill. Please, any suggestion? It come liquid?

I also have a child on the autistic spectrum, ADHD, ODD, OCD, PDD. I also started with a sweet drink, chocolate milk or almond milk is a great alternative if you don't want to give your child a soda... Grab a straw, have HIM put it on the back of his tongue, so he feels like he's in control. He takes a sip and it goes right down when he swallows. It's something to do with the way you suck on a straw, the way you hold your tongue, that makes it go right down.

I hope this helps!!

Thank you for your response, my child autistic child has been prescribed Intuniv after being on Prozac for almost 6 months. He is only 5 but a big boy at 75 lbs and 4 ft tall. I am not trying to 'kill' my son as some have posted. All of his meds such as trazadone is crush-able and Prozac is in liquid form but still have really bad issues with sensory, especially sound. I have tried applesauce, yogurt and chocolate pudding, with an autistic chid their diet is very limited. what do others have to add to help him swallow a pill. I have not tried crushing and will not. My only alternaive is to tell his specialist we cannot use this med but he did a genetic test and this was the only med in th 'green' zone

Our Dr recommend giving it an hour or 2 before bed so the sleepiness happens when he actually needs to sleep. It works! He sleeps all night and is good to go in the morning

The genetic testing is not a guarantee. It just gives some direction. You may want to try other things. We've been trying different things for 2 yrs now. Good results are short lived. I have been crushing the Intuniv and had good results right away. Now my son with Autism is a nightmare. That is why I am here. Attempting to see if anyone else had these results. My son refuses pills also. Good luck!
