There are no markings on the small capsule I described for Cough. It worked fantastic. The Dr. who prescribed has died. No one else seems to know what it could be.

Actually, I think I do know, it is a small, orange or brownish colored gel capsule thing, very tiny with liquid inside. My husband had them awhile ago, it is actually a type of anesthetic that works by numbing to supress your cough. I am hunting for my bottle for the name, as soon as I find it, I will post the name.

There is a marking on these, however, it is too tiny to see without a magnifying glass. I remember when my husband got his, and I looked it up for side-effects, I was amazed to learn they had markings on them as tiny as they were and I couldn't see anything. So I got a lighted magnifier and could still barely see it.

I finally found it! YEAH!

The generic is Benzonatate, one of the name brands it is sold under is Tessalon. They call the little pill things Perles.

Here's some more information pages:

Benzonatate

Tessalon Perles

Benonatate Drug Info

Benonatate Sytemic

Hope this helps, there are both generics and name brand available, and since it is an anesthetic, it is prescription only.

Some of the colors vary of course, depending on the manufacturer, the ones my DH has are more of a brownish orange, the ones made name brand, probably what you had are a lighter yellow.

Here's the info on this site:

Benzonatate

Sorry, I spelled some of the others wrong, but I am just happy to have found it! LOL!

You are right, they work wonderfully for a cough, but can't be used for coughs for things such as emphysema, asthma or smoking.

On this page, if you scroll down, there is a picture of one of the brands of it:

The ones my DH has are more football shaped, not totally round like this one, but same ingredient.

I am on a roll now, here's more images:

Though these are slightly larger and have markings, the smaller the dose, the tinier they are, not many fillers necessary in these, so the harder it is to see imprints on them.

More Images

The 3rd one on this list is the ones my DH has that are too tiny to see the imprint on.

This was the best pill ever. I was given in when I was in college many years ago and have could never remember the name of it. The Dr's/Nurses are not familiar with it and always give the stuff with codeine that doesn't allow for accurate functioning. LOL! Thanks for posting this because I was able to use this to locate it on WebMD and suggest to a friend. I think that the college Dr prescribed it more for the professors and classmates benefit since it decreases the urge you have to cough. I would keep it on hand in my medicine cabinet for when I needed it but wasn't really sick enough to make a trip to the doctor. LOL!
