Corex Cough Syrup Abuse

Hello doctor! I am a college student who just graduated. A few months ago, in December, last year I drank a bottle of corex in order to get a good nap because i was not being able to sleep as stressed about the exams. I drank it all and slept, but two hours later, i woke up and it was around 10 pm at night, I got so sick. I felt like i was being electrocuted and i was breathing rapidly and my BP must have been very high as I could feel my heart beating fast and so rapidly. I couldn't even talk properly. I went to the bathroom and deliberately vomited in order to get rid of the syrup. I felt a little well, and thinking it will be alright by tomorrow i went to sleep. And I spent the next whole day sleeping. but in between i was getting some panic attacks and it felt as if like my heart beat might stop or i may die in my sleep. It was when i was in college, in India. I came home to Bhutan for a month on winter vacation and I was fine but still contemplating about the terror I felt that night. After the vacation, I went back to college. (I live on my own and alone in a small one room apartment). I don't know if I am worrying unnecessarily, but in February, i felt very dizzy, so i went to a near by homeopathic doctor to seek for help. And he said My BP is high but not much. I thought it must have been because I hadn't been sleeping well cause i was still getting panic attacks. Never did i felt this way before. The homeopathic doctor gave me a few medicines to control my BP. I took it for a few days and I travelled back to Bhutan went to one of my family doctor for a check up. He said, I am absolutely fine. Then I went back to college again. And now that the college is over, I am back home. And last week In went to my family doctor again and he said My BP is normal. I don't know why but i don't even feel like I am healthy anymore. Even though they say I am fine. So my question to you is, do you think I am just worrying too much? I really want an answer doctor, Please help. I haven't been this brief to anybody. I am a very confident person and fearless. But I still feel like I may die in my sleep. Should I just stop thinking about it? Between February and June, I completely haven't socialized with people much and been in room most of the time. I feel like my heart might stop beating any next second. I am only 22 now. I haven't smoked in two years and haven't had a drink ever since that incident with the syrup. I only drink once in a month or so. It feels like all the fun and passion in my life has gone away and I don't even feel like eating even when I am hungry sometimes. I feel like nobody understands me. Please reply ASAP. I am a music producer and a but i don't feel like doing anything right now. Please help.

From what you've said in your post, it seems you may be suffering from some depression and anxiety, unrelated to the Corex syrup.

The palpitations can also be a sign of anxiety, not necessarily a blood pressure problem. I think that rather than worrying about your blood pressure, you should talk to your doctor about all these issues, so they have a better picture of what you're going through.

Are you still taking the homeopathic medications?

No doc! I don't! I just used it for a few days. I am under no medication.....I've have always been feeling that My BP might go high. I guess it's anxiety. Like you said. Thanks you doc. :)

sounds like you are having depression.i had open heart surgery last august and when I started to heal up when I came home I was afraid I was going to die and I got depressed and had all kinds of thoughts. when I got better I made myself get out of the house and go as much as I could. if you have a hobby do that if not get one. your thoughts will change if you think about something else to do
