Copay Increase For Oxycontin

Updated

I faught the use of a narcotic drugs for the treatment of pain from bilateral knee and hip injuries until I just could not get relief from anything and the motrin gave me ulcers. I chose oxycontin because it was a low co pay and doc said it was very effective. Now after two years of living almost pain free I am forced to make a change because they quit making a generic for this drug. Is there financial help and why are they not making it in generic form any longer?

I am on Medicare, and on same med, but my provider forced me to change to Morphine for pain. I got used to it. 6yrs passed then moved 150miles away from Dr. Found another Dr.near Olympia Wa. He dropped me 1st visit 50mg-I went into bad withdrawl. BE CAREFUL

The making of many oxycodone compounds was due to a heavy demand short supply of good effective ingredeints, several manufactors ran bad allotments some were even double strength, an overdosing was occuring, those companies were the KV pharmicetuicals an the ETHEX CORP. the shortage was deemed over as of may they may still be shortages in some areas but its about to disapate, your Dr, may give you some roxicodone until the shortage breaks if you re lucky to find that, most Dr. are going to extended medications for long term pain use

And if you have some type of insurance, then you do not qualify for the assistance programs, because they are for those who do not have any coverage.

Here's the deal with OxyContin - the patent is not up. Purdue won a case in the US Supreme Court (I believe it went that far anyway). The generic was a violation of the patent. That is why they stopped making it. As for help with the co-pay, you can go to Purdue's website and apply for the assistance card. It will reimburse up to a certain amount, and yes, it is good with a prescription plan, but it will reimburse less since you are already having to pay just the co-pay. Our co-pay is $40.00 a prescription, they pay the pharmacy $20.00, we get charged only $20.00. I think they will reimburse up to $60.00 each month, but I am not totally certain as I am just familiar with how it works with us. The card is good until the end of the year, and then they may or may not renew the assistance program. Definitely go to their website, research it. Many companies are doing this. I know the makers of Lipitor do it also. Their's does not work for us though, as it is only a difference of something like 10.00 a year between getting it through mail-in and getting each month at the pharmacy with the discount card. Research each drug's website. Go out on the net, research something like financial help with OxyContin, or financial help with Lipitor, etc. There are plenty of companies out there willing to help.
