Bisoprolol is a beta blocker that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure and cardiac conditions.

And yes, stopping them abruptly could cause problems, yu may experience rebound effects, such as elevated heart rate, palpitations and increased blood pressure, all of which could be dangerous if not carefully monitored.

It is also very important to keep your blood pressure under control, the risks of letting it go and continue to raise far outweigh the side effects you are experiencing from the medication.

Have you spoken to your doctor, yet?

I also had some problems with medications in this class and tried several, before we found one that works for me, without causing any bad side effects.

So, the one I would recommend talking to your doctor about is Carvedilol. It is known to cause very few, if any, side effects in most people in comparison to the other beta blockers. It also has the advantage that it usually requires a much lower dosage.

I could use some advice. I recently turned 55 and about 2 years ago I found out that I had psvt (heart rate elevated to 237 bpm in less than 5 mins on the treadmill in a stress test) Anyway, it has kept the rapid and irregular heartbeat to a minimum but at a price. I had thought it was just me when I started losing hair. I'm not just losing hair but it's so much thinner I can comb it with a fine tooth comb. I have also put on 15 lbs. I have worked out and walked all of my life and don't even have a weigh scale as my weight has never been much of an issue. Suddenly, hair loss, vision is worse, teeth are worse and I'm feeling very very down. I was basically told that bisoprolol fumerate? was best for me as it has the least amount of side effects and when I mentioned to the cardiologist that I was concerned about my recent weight gain he just stated the obvious, that I consumed to many calories and didn't work out enough. So, I get that I am in menopause etc., but I do know what's normal for me and what isn't and this is NOT normal. I am taking a half a tab daily which amounts to 2.5 mg approx. Is there ANYTHING I can take other than this drug that has less side effects? I am so not myself these days.

Hi , I'm on concor 2.5mg for about 1.5 month because of sudden increase of my blood pressure, then my neurologist prescribed inderal for me instead of concor, he said this increase in B.P is due to anxiety & some panic attacks. Can you please tell me how to take inderol , I mean no problem to take inderal the next dose instead of concor , or should I decrease concor gradually then start with inderal 10 mg.Thanks in advance.

for anyone just starting to take bisoprolol, please hang on in there! I have been taking 5mg now for 2 years, when I started, I felt so so tired, hard to get out bed. consultant explained, because my heart would be slowing down, this is normal, but . . . after 6 months I started to feel much better. this is because the heart will become stronger eventually due to the help of bisoprolol. the worst thing for me has been thinning hair, small cost to pay I guess, as still alive and kicking!

I started taking 0.625 mg (the lowest possible dose) of Bisoprolol 9 months ago because of mitral prolapse syndrome which caused my heart to race on exertion. I soon noticed I had put on several pounds in weight despite eating the same amount and exercising the same amount. Since then I have been determined to get back to the weight I was before I started taking this medication but it seems impossible. I am eating less and trying to exercise more but this is difficult because another side effect I suffer is extreme tiredness. I also seem to get a distended stomach which gets worse as the day progresses. I feel like I am half the person I was before taking this medication in terms of the energy I have and feel exhausted a lot of the time. I've practically given up doing the exercise classes I used to do but still do a lot of walking. I am a few pounds heavier than I was originally and am working hard to prevent myself from putting on more weight. It's all making me feel quite depressed so I have asked my GP to re-refer me back to the cardiologist for his opinion.

Can associate with many of the posters. my prob started with lisiprinol ... noticed my hair was dry and thinner on low dosage too. my father was on bisoprolol as me, and him seemed like my doctor switched me to 10 mg a day bisoprolol even though my hair has improved without a doubt but it's still not quite there. I suspect the ones with weight gain is fluid retention. u may need a mild diuretic another thing. I would set yourself a three or four day a week weight training programme with no aerobics to fire up your metabolism, light to med weight, high reps , muscles need energy. hope it helps someone

hOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR BISOPROLOL TO COME OUT YOUR SYSTEM

Was this helpful? 15

You best go back on it !! Reduce week by week because 10 mg is the largest tab of bis. U know it sends signals to reduce your heartbeat as a beta blocker. I am not a doctor but i know the aforementioned is correct.

I have just come off bisoprolol cos I hate the side effects especially the 24/7 headache , any ideas how long this devil drug takes to leave your system, I stopped it once before for a week and the headache was still there

I too get a 24/7 headache. On 2.5mg of this tablet. Have been on for years fine but this year it's really effected me. I came off it for a few months as felt so rubbish, felt great but naturally my bp crept up so went back on and it's made me feel yuk, headaches everyday, tired, nape pain.just horrid!!

Talk to your pharmacist and ask them to suggest other medicine instead, then talk with your doctor and ask about those alternatives. I keep having side effects from BP meds. I didn't realize the hair falling out was due to this med until I read this thread. I had the shortness of breath but chalked it up to my asthma. Once I started having a ton of other side effects, I started to consider there may be a problem and looked up side effects. Yep, the more than half a dozen side effects I was having were the meds.

For the person with headaches... it may not be the meds. You may not be getting enough fluids. Drink more water or try Powerade or Gatorade. I had headaches for a long time, and it was not getting enough fluids.

My doctor looked on a document she had and said that hair loss was not listed as a side effect on lisiprinol. Prob would have said same about bisoprolol because some people claim it's toxic to hair follicles, but from what else I have read am convinced it interrupts either one or all 3 hair cycles ones called telegon. I think kicking it in premature one thing since taking both meds. there's hardly a single hair in the shower tray where I used to shed loads from being a teen with no hair loss so it says something.

Re: alli b (# 7) Expand Referenced Message

How can you say that Bisoprolol makes your heart stronger? These drugs make your heart beat less and less therefore, as with any muscle, your muscle (heart muscle) will become weaker over time..........Don't believe me ?Ask your Dr. for he will tell you that I am right.

On bisoprolol 10mg 2 a day for 4 years also taking Digoxin 250mcg 1 a day due to debilitating AF(kinda scary being in emergency room looking at a heart rate monitor showing a solid 210-220 bpm for 3 hours) and an irregular heartbeat.
Have felt so tired and listless with little enthusiasm for life for many years, AF attacks started when I was 30(41 now) and was in and out of hospital many times. The irregular beats are something I have been aware of since about 18 but never looked for help as it didn't cause me any problems.

Had an RF ablation about 3 years ago which was a turning point and basically been AF attack free since but just made my heartbeat more noticeable and the never ending lethargy and yellow blotches in my vision continued.

Due to circumstances which I won't get into here, I had an enforced suspension of all drugs, taking normal dose one day and next day nothing. It's been more than a week now and I feel better already, palpitations have gone, feel much happier and brighter, no yellow blotches everywhere I look and no pills to take.

Think part of it is also getting away from a very stressful situation(domestic violence) and getting proper sleep and eating well. I'm even able to excersise much harder than before with my stamina feeling much greater than when I was on those drugs. I suppose I might just be fooling myself but I feel like I'm at 90% instead of 50% as before and probably the relief at removing myself from my previous environment is helping.

I'm keeping my eye on my BP which so far has been fairly constant and high average at 130/80 but high BP was only present when going through stress. I've given up smoking and I don't drink anyway, I put on lots of weight during years of not knowing what was wrong and while taking tabs but over the past year I have lost 35kg and I'm keeping on going as long as my heart is pumping. I don't want an 8 man team to carry my coffin thanks.

I have been on betablockers since Nov. 2016. Bisoprolol made my reflux much worse and caused horrible intolerable epigastric pain. I have irritable bowel with constipation and it has made this condition much worse as well to the point where I am totally laxative dependent. I have tried metoprolol, atenolol, propanolol and nevibolol. All cause abdominal pain and constipation with the exception of nevibolol. I went back to metoprolol and have just been putting up with a bad situation. I have no sustained ventricular tachycardia and the beta-blockers work. I do not want an ablation. It is an imperfect and frustrating situation.

I had VF in 2009 while at the gym when I was 23. I was put on 5mg of Bisoprolol Fumarate and I gained about 15 lbs in the last 8 years. I asked my doctor every year to take me off but he always said NO. When I first started taking Bisoprolol I felt like a zombie. I cant stand taking pills and I know there is no way these are good for my long term health. I decided to cut calories by not drinking soda and by just eating healthier. I lost 40 pounds down to 175 from 215. I cut my pill in half for 60 days and then halved the half for 30 days. Then quit the medicine altogether except for my low dose aspirin. I FEEL GREAT! I have so much more energy. I'm not depressed anymore and my anxiety is nonexistent. I also believe this medicine has been causing my hair line to recede and causing infertility. Be smart about getting off by weaning and not abruptly stopping. I don't care what my Cardiologist says about it because I know my body. I feel great!

I had a catheter ablation about 12 years ago. I'm 40 now. Have been on bisoprolol for two years. Works great so far. I also take 1 mg of klonopin and Zoloft for anxiety. I still have afib from time to time. The earlier in the morning I take the beta blocker the better. I am tired all the time but the other meds play a role in that. Overall much better on meds than off meds. Better living through chemistry

On bisoprolol for two months for an arrythmia. Having G.I. side effects. Gastritis. Also causes, for me, constipation. Now need to take miralax on a daily basis. Cant see living with this type of abdominal pain forever.

I was like that initially but after three weeks the fatigue disappeared. I am on a low dose for an arrythmia. However, I get gastrointestinal side effects and its been two months and my body does not seem to be adjusting.

Bisoprolol- Hi I'm a 64 year old man, I have permanent AFib, I've been talking Bisoprolol for about 9 years. I was on 7.5mg, but have reduced over the years to 2.5mg at my request, due to fatigue. The side effect I still have are fatigue, some hair loss, erectile disfunction & weight gain & shortness of breath. For the last couple of years the tiredness has got worse, so I am now trying cutting a tab in half, so I take just 1.25 mg a day, I still feel shattered all the time. I am going to ask to come off the Bisoprolol.
After taking it for 9 years I wonder how it will take to get out of my body.
Best regards
Mike
